1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo with Gen 4 swap
Description
Thanks for looking! Located in Las Vegas.
The SW20 Mr2 has been on my bucket list of cars to own since I was 16, now at 36, I finally got one, and after a year of ownership, I am ready to let it go. This car honestly is the most fun car I have ever driven, and I have had 600+hp cars, but the sound, and feel of this car is soo fun, It is literally a Turbo go kart.
Car is an original turbo, and I bought it with a gen 3 engine swap, that was halfway put together when I got it. SO after months of trying to fix the engine in it, The shop I had working on convinced me to get the desirable Rev 4 turbo engine swap done and I did. It is the newest version of the 3SGTE engine out of the 4wd turbo caldina, If not familiar, It comes stock with a larger turbo, coil on plug, and map sensor. It is known as the most reliable, and best bang for the buck 3SGTE, They also call the engine a St215 or gen 4. I bought the engine and was told it has 40k from Japan.. Swap was done about 2k miles ago from a shop called Btech. The Vegas Mr2 shop basically. They installed it, and did all the custom wiring, and got it back on the road, and it is a blast.
With the install I got Brand new MR2 Heaven hard intercooler pipes.
Car has an Exedy clutch, with plenty of life left. Feels stock, not heavy at all.
Car has 179k on chassis and about 2k on swap, NO rust, car has been in California, Texas, and here in Nevada. Will go up as I daily drive it, because I love to drive it.
The car runs great and honestly would not be scared to drive it acrossthe country.
The car uses an ECU master ECU, and runs great, I am using just a downloaded stock tune, and very happy with it. I cannot image how much more fun it would be with a real tune. So it is currently at 15psi of boost controlled by the ECU. The EMU is actually very nice, and easy to use. You download the software free, and can make changed yourself, or any shop should be able to tune it with ease. It also can do boost by gear, antilag etc.
Car uses real dash as the gauge cluster, so I will be giving you an older tablet with the car. The ecu puts out a wifi signal for the tablet. Super accurate, and as fast as the sensor reads. The factory fuel and coolant temp gauges still work, and are visible while using the tablet. The speedo also still functions so the miles stay correct.
Just installed 94+ kouki tail lights and installed LED bulbs in them.
Pop ups work perfect, and have just installed brand new Glass Housings, that take bulbs, and installed LED headlamp bulbs, and Yellow LED foglamp bulbs as well
Power door locks, power windows, leather interior and a non warped dash. All in great shape. Missing ashtray, and driver seat shows some wear. The passenger interior door handle broke off also, but can still open it from inside.
Just installed 4 Way 6.5 inch speakers in thedoor with the correct adapter plate to make larger speakers fit
8 Inch self powered Subwoofer behind the passengerseat, and pre-wired for a 2nd sub on the driver side
It is also running a rare and authentic greddy power extreme exhaust that sounds deep, but rather quiet.
Has greddy side mount intercooler with intercooler fan with shroud, to suck the air through the intercooler and into the engine bay.
The car is lowered on tein lowering springs.
wheels are staggered 17x8 and 17x9 Enkei Rpf1.
Has a Greddy replica front bumper lip
Has Toms replica side skirts, that do not fit well, but look really good, do not plan on removing them, but have the factory side vents if you wanted to go back to OEM.
Bad..
Car does have a rebuilt title from being sold at an auction at a junkyard in California many many years ago. Not from an accident. Please dont let this scare you, rebuilt, not salvage.
The car has ac, but while doing the swap, noticed that 1 line had a kink, so left the compressor out untill I could find a replacement ac line. I was able to find a used line, but the seller made me buy the whole set, so I have a 2nd set of all the ac lines and condenser. So, have everything needed to put AC back in, but not installed, and have a 2nd set of almost every line.
4th gear is finikie, I honestly think it has to do with the ebay short throw shifter that came installed with the car. it seems like the linkage is not putting it in 4th all the way. If you speed shift the car into 4th it works everytime, or if you pull it into gear with lots of force it will stay in. if you are gentle it seems to have a problem. Once it is in gear, then 4th it is fine, and does not pop out or anything like that. Every other gear goes in perfect without a sound or problem. If I kept the car, I would get a TRD short shifter and see if that fixes the problem, but I usually skip 4th, and got used to it. If you rev 3rd gear over 3 grand, and go into 5th you cannot even tell, it has enough power that you will not even notice really. The only time I use 4th it getting on the interstate. But, it also could be synchro.
as mentioned above Pass interior door handle is broken, so I just open it from the outside
Paint is not the best, all panels match, but has chips and cracks in the paint. looks great from 10 feet.
WHY AM I SELLING?
I am honestly at a cross roads about selling it, its the most fun driving car I have every owned, but I am too big for it.I am 6 foot 2, and fat. I fit in it, but want somethingbigger. I am really looking to get into another 3000GT. Although not as fun, I fit in it well haha.
I am asking 7500 obo and that will make it the cheapest gen4 swapped Mr2 around, mine has a higher mile Chassis, and a Rebuilt title from being sold at a junkyard in 1995, and I know my price is very, very fair. Please message me if you have any questions. Only Trades I would be looking for is 3000gt VR4, 300zx Twin Turbo, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru WRX STI, really wanting a sports wagon also, I would consider a WRX sportswagen. but if have somethingelse, feel free to ask me, but dont be upset if I say no.
