Description
Greetings,
Here's the story of the truck:
I purchased it from an old guy up in Tacoma, WA that had this truck sitting in his garage for 25 plus years. This was his "vacation truck" that he used when at his island home. I picked it up with 35,000 original miles on it - about 4-5 years ago. He barely drove it. When I picked it up it was 100% bone stock. When I say bone stock I mean all original rubber - tires, belts, hoses etc. He was meticulous about oil changes (you can see this by his hand written notes that still sit inside the driver's side visor slip case). I bought it and immediately put new wheels and tires on it (as I thought the tires would blow on the way home). I had all fluids flushed and changed - transfer case too etc. At this point the mechanic thought it would be a good idea to change the head gasket and look at the timing chain etc as all of the rubber was deteriorating. So I had the head gasket done ($3k plus job) and exhaust manifold etc. The timing chain and everything surrounding that looked great. Since then I've put almost 30,000 miles on it and had the carb rebuilt, new slave cylinder and most recently belts, battery and shocks and muffler. I also had the valve cover gasket replaced at which point I had the mechanic paint the valve cover black (see photo) as he offered and I thought it would look cool. All work was either done by a Toyota Dealership or the best Toyota mechanic that yelp offered. I have receipts for everything and these are included. Every 3,000 miles I have religiously put Mobil One oil in her and only the Toyota oil filter (per the forums online say this is best).
This truck has NEVER been off road. Never been abused. The steering is tight and feels new, the ride is wonderful with no creaks or rattles. There are no rips or tears or cracks anywhere on the interior - it is a time capsule. I have kept her bone stock except for wheels and exhaust. This is the DLX model that comes with AM radio (no cassette), no clock and no a/c. I thought about putting a new stereo and AC in many times but didn't want to modify her. She's perfect. She's never once not started or broken down on me. All maintenance has been preventative (gaskets get old I guess but they had not blown when I changed them). This truck has always lived on the west coast and now lives with me in Los Angeles - even though I keep WA plates on it. This truck has only seen snow once since I have owned it - and that was when I drove her to Wyoming to get my EMT certificate from NOLS a few winters ago. I brought her out and started her up every morning in sub zero temps. She kicked over every time. After leaving Wyoming I had the full undercarriage washed - just in case there was any salt on the road.
This is a rust free vehicle. Frame, everything... it's all in excellent shape.
Here's what I know that is wrong with the truck: The emergency brake light on the dash stays on about 50% of the time. I have no idea why. When I put a new battery in it stopped doing it for a while and then started doing it again. Maybe the eBrake is sticky? Also, just in the last month I got a tiny little - hard to see - dent above the front right wheel well. I included a photo of it - it's the last photo. Just a tiny little bump. I have no idea how it happened... something most have bumped me. The guy at the car wash offered to pop it out for $50 but I said no. It has a thick bolted panel behind it and he wanted to get under it... I don't like messing with this truck. Again, it's barely noticeable but easily popped out I'm sure. Also, this is original paint on this truck. It's going to have scratches and nicks and dings here and there. I tried to photo it all best I could - but please know it is not perfect. The hood has the most dings. The windshield is also original so the rubber seals are drying out and peeling a bit. But there is NO water leakage. The shell did not come with the truck. I found it at a truck shell place in WA. It is gelcoat fiberglass - so can't be waxed. It is way more faded then the truck (which really isn't faded at all). But it's clean inside and free of mold etc. It is also gray and fits the long bed perfectly. The truck looks way better without the shell, but I still think the shell looks cool. But clearly the shell sat out in the sun somewhere for a long time before I got it. But it can be painted and you're psyched.
Under the shell is the 7 foot long bed. It's awesome as I'm 6'1 and you can sleep/camp back there no problem. I installed waterproof carpet in the back. Under that is the plastic bed liner in perfect shape. And under that is the painted, still shiny, truck bed with no rust. I bought the Toyota decal online and had it installed on the tailgate. This truck came from the dealer with no decals (again, bone stock). It's the correct decal for the generation before this truck (a little larger than the '87 tailgate decal). I know this. I just like the way it looks. But it's super easily taken off if you don't like it.
I love this truck. I am only selling it because my wife is pregnant and I need to get a new truck with a back seat (we have a Volvo and other cars, but baby can't ride in this truck without a back seat). These 22R engines regularly go over 300,000 miles and this one isn't even near broken in. She sounds great, runs great drives in the mountains great - goes 100 mph on the freeway with no problem - passing all cars - and gets great mileage. The cab has never been smoked in (see photos) and smells great. 5 speed shifts fantastic, clutch is great, brakes are great, it's comfortable and fun. I've always done preventative maintenance, regular oil changes and kept all receipts. The truck comes with original owners manual, options pamphlet/warranty thing and original key. I've also kept the original owner's hand written notes in the truck. Every mechanic that sees this truck tries to buy it from me and I constantly find notes on it - here in LA. I have no idea what market value is, so I thought I'd try to sell it here on eBay first. I don't really know what else to say. Feel free to ask questions. Thanks for looking!
Update: I see the autocheck shows 3 owners. This is because the old guy that sold it to me consigned it through an auto consigner in Tacoma, I think? ... which is how I found him. But they had it less than a week... so didn't really think that would actually change ownership? I don't know. Anyway, just thought I would clarify that.
Also, this is NOT a Tacoma. This truck is a Toyota 4x4. Made before Tacoma's existed. I just didn't know where else to list it.
On Sep-04-16 at 19:53:00 PDT, seller added the following information:Wanted to add that this truck also comes with the original Toyota Tool Kit (as seen in the photo) and there is a clutch start cancel button - which lights up and works great (I use it all the time). Not sure if that was ever an option or not.
And this truck is sold As Is/No Warranty. Please ask all questions before bidding and contact me before bidding if you have less than 10 positive feedback or I will have to cancel your bid (sorry getting advice from people). Good luck!
