Description

I'm reluctantly parting ways with my Dune Beige 1977 FJ40. A beautiful example of this desirable model year and color, this rig will cruise down the highway straight-on at 60mph with just one hand on the wheel. With a few imperfections, she's not quite a show quality cruiser, but you'll have just as much (if not more) fun driving, and it will draw the same attention as some of the $60-80K restored Land Cruisers you see around these days. I've yet to find myself at a gas station or busy parking lot without ending up in a conversation and walk around. A few details:
-Dune Beige 416 Color
-Original 2F motor
-Original 4speed transmission
-Mini-truck power steering conversion (performs flawlessly and makes daily driving a breeze)
-3" lift with 33x10.5R15 BFG All-Terrain tires (all five, including spare) with ~1,000 miles
-Dual gas tank (OEM up front and 20gal aux tank in rear) with simple dash-mounted switch to control
-Unlike plenty of FJ40's out there, this Cruiser works: transfer case and transmission shift smoothly, all gauges, interior dash and dome lights, exterior lights, turn signals, brake lights, wipers, stock heater, AM/FM radio, original service light in glovebox . . . you name it, it works
Work performed over the last 18 months in preparation for sale:
-Replaced front seats with OEM frames, rebuilt foam, and new upholstery (color matching black vinyl to retain original look - see pictures)
-Reupholstered rear jump seats
-Replaced transfer case inner and outer shift boots
-New front and rear seatbelts
-Rebuilt rear differential
-Rebuilt Carb
-New fuel pump
-New distributor
-New coil and plugs
-New radiator
-New 33x10.5R15 BFG AT tires now with ~1K miles on them, mounted to original (refinished) steelies in perfect shape
-Solid clutch, solid brakes (drum rear, disc front as was the standard in 77)
-Replaced "warm pull" heater cable (with OEM) - heater functions BEAUTIFULLY on this rig
-Interior floor insulation beneath OEM rubber floor liner and beneath NEW rear cargo mat
-New OEM interior door handles
-New hood apron rests
-Replaced multiple exterior parts with OEM color correct pieces to bring this back to its original look: rear gas tank holders, license dome covers, bumperettes, OEM pewter wiper blades
It is important to note that while in excellent shape, this is not a frame off / new engine Cruiser restoration. This thing loves to be driven. While she has undoubtedly been babied, garage kept, and well cared for, this isn't the garage queen cruiser you've seen selling at $60K plus in the auctions. As you will see in the detailed photos, there are a few bubbled spots in the paint (under rear Toyota emblem, under rear spare gas tank cover, under main gas tank cover, on passenger front fender. The white roof is structurally perfect, though does have a scuff on the rear passenger side top (not visible). I'm happy to discuss more details by phone or email as any potential buyer would see fit. $27,500 OBO
In-person viewing of the vehicle is preferred, but I'm also willing to sell remotely with buyer to cover shipping. I do have a reputable car-transport broker with whom I'd be happy to connect you if you are interested. Thanks, and please feel free to email with any questions.
