1985 Toyota Pickup 4wd Turbo Diesel
For sale is my 1985 Toyota pickup. I am the second owner ( original owner sold it to family member). It has been my pride and joy since 2011. I was given the original window sticker, factory manuals, tire kit, and a 3 page list of maintenance history on the truck when I bought it. It is a 30+ year old truck so there are scrathes, dents, and dings, cracks in dash etc. The frame was undercoated when ordered. You can scratch off the undercoating and reveal the factory sheen in spots. There very limited amounts of surface rust on the frame and ABSOLUTELY NO ROTTING. Overall the frame is in EXCELLENT shape. The cab does have some small surface rust in spots. The truck has a 5 cyl. Mercedes Turbo Diesel engine. The motor is an Om617 out of a low mileage 1985 Mercedes 300cd. The motor js very tight, it has great compression, and ALOT of life left in it. I have put 30k on the truck after the motor swap. I did the engine swap in 2013. The truck was built for going down to the river, going to to the dump, wintertime commuter and play truck. It was not designed as a commuter or roadtrip ride. It is alot quicker and powerful than the factory 22r motor. VERY fun to drive. It averages approx. 22-26 mpg. Glow plugs are excellent and starts with minimal preheating in the coldest of winter.
1985 was the last year for Toyota's infamous straight axle pickups. It was also the last year for Mercedes' bullet-proof turbo diesel motors. I spent ALOT of time, money, and research doing this swap . It is a solid combo. The front axle was rebuilt 2 years ago with Yukon bearings, seals, etc. The 4wd works flawlessly on this truck. I do believe the truck would climb a brick wall with the diesel motor idling in 4-low. The bucket seats and center console are not factory. The seats and interior are in overall great shape. There cracks in the dash, small tears in the vinyl floor and doors and other small imperfectrions throughout. The truck has brand new 32x11.5x15 Cooper tires on black steelies along with a full size spare. It also has a Rough Country full spring 5in lift. The flatbed was fabricated Fall 2015 at which point the frame was sanded primed and bedlined. The transmission is the factory 5 speed trans with only 2k on rebuild, clutch, and throwout bearing. The full rebuild including input shaft down to the shifter bushing seats was done a few months ago and is still under warranty. The motor conversion kit is a 4x4 Labs kit. No cost was spared during the swap. The flywheel from the toyota was marked and match-balanced to the Mercedes flywheel to keep the engine balancing true. New tty bolts on flywheel and torqued as per Mercedes requirements.When I had the trans rebuilt and resealed the majority or the gaskets and seals, as well as installing a NON EGR intake/exhaust manifold which flows better than the 85 EGR style. All fluids are fresh and kept changed on schedule if not sooner. Brakes in great shape. Clutch master and slave cylinder were replaced a couple years ago. The brake booster I believe has a hole in the diaphram so the brakes have no assist, and should be replaced. This does not affect the truck from being driven.I am certain there are MANY of parts that have replaced or upgraded that Im forgetting. I have reciepts for most if not all parts/work
I have a color matched factory hood, doors, mirrors, vent style windows and many other parts I'd let go with the truck. I had plans to give the cab a makeover this spring but I do not have the time. The tuck has a clean title and a good VA inspection
On Apr-23-16 at 07:41:25 PDT, seller added the following information:* I also had custom driveshafts made with Spicer U-joints after the swap. They were balanced as well. The truck also has the bracket on the motor to mount a power steering pump if ever desired.
