1965 Toyota FJ40 Factory Soft Top/dual tanks/factory PTO winch
Description
Selling my 1965 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 Factory soft top. Included in the photos is what we expect this looked like from the factory but this one also has the factory PTO Winch and Factory dual gas tanks (skid plate under rear tank) for extended mileage/adventures. It is 99% complete as far as all of the original parts being there.
Here is what I know:
Aside from the 2f engine addition this is an all original 1965 soft top FJ40. This is a good candidate for a full restoration. 1F motor unit is in the back which you can see in the photos. I was told it was the original engine and the 2F was installed for the added power but the installations wasn't fully completed. I have no way to verify if it was the original engine. The instrument cluster shows just over 60K miles. Based on the wear on the pedal pads I could assume it is correct but again have no way to verify it hasn't turned over. Currently the Color is Red
Mechanically-
Engine is a 2f from a newer FJ40. It has an HEI distributor. We put new plugs in, oiled the cylinders and were able to start it, runs very smooth. The gas tanks (dual tanks) however are not hooked up as I believe they need to be cleaned out. Clutch cylinder/assembly looks to be new and functions very well. Brakes do not build pressure. Transmission shifts smoothly between the gears. I haven't connected everything to the point of driving it around, it still needs the fuel system cleaned and connected and cooling connected/radiator hoses etc. Brakes will need to be checked. The PTO winch appears to be all there but is not connected at the transfer case. Steering is tight and works well-no power steering though (not an option when these were built). Front drive/transfer case appear to work properly. This has the 3spd "on the floor" transmission with the 2 speed transfer case and front drive unit. What's kind of cool is you have 6 speeds in 2 or 4 wheel drive. Some of the various knobs/controls/cables inside are not hooked up but they are there.
Warn locking front hubs.
Electrical-
It appears to be all there but most of it is disconnected-not sure why. It would make sense to order a new wiring harness and just do it new/right. Pretty inexpensive and then its reliable.
Body--
There is light surface rust on the under carriage and floor pans which all appears superficial. The only rust of significance that will need sheetmetal repair that I could find is just under both ends of the tail gate and at the bottom of the doors on both sides. Aside from that the rust appears superficial/surface. The panels that need repaired can easily purchased on line which would be the rocker panels at around $200 for the set.
Tailgate is solid/clean, Hood solid and clean (original based on paint.)
Windshield is good. Frames all good. Right fender good, left fender looks like it may have had some work done at one time. Fenders also available in metal online for purchase around $99 ea.
Miscellaneious-
Soft top is new. No sides/back though. I have 6 doors total. The original doors look like they were left outside and the bottom channel is completely rusted out. We have 2 additional doors from a different FJ40 that are correct to the model/year-hard frame soft skin which are in excellent condition-solid, light surface rust only (see photos). They need new skins-usually to match the top.
The interior as you can see from the photos is non-existent in the vehicle but we do have the original double jump seat frames and the split 60/40 front bench frame/spring sets which would need to be painted and upholstered. I have the original hub caps, heater unit, and a couple of bins of additional parts. There was no padded dash in this model year so the seats are the extent of the upholstery.
The listing includes both engines, obviously the 2F currently installed and the F engine sitting in the bed.
I may add information to the listing as questions are asked. Feel free to ask any questions, I will try and respond as quickly as possible.
