Description

I am selling my 1972 Triumph GT6 MarkIII2-door Fastback. The GT6 is a 6-cylinder sports coupe that was built by Standard-Triumph and based on their popular Triumph Spitfire convertible from 1966-1973. In early 1963, Standard-Triumph commissioned Giovanni Michelotti (notable for designing many models including several for Ferrari & Maserati) to design a GT version of the new Spitfire line. The fastback design was too heavy for the 1147cc output and the model was shelved. However, the prototype was adopted by the Triumph racing program and its aerodynamics resulted in great success (1st in class at 24-hour Lemans). After re-evaluation the GT6 was born with the Michelotti designed body and the more powerful 6 cylinder Triumph Vitesse engine with a marketing campaign to talk about the racing success.

This 1972 Triumph GT6 is perhaps the finest GT6 MK3 I have seen around. Extensive frame off restoration in 2014-2015. Everything was gone through from the body to engine to the interior. This car is a four speed without overdrive. Car taken down to bare metal and painted with the correct Damson (maroon) color and shines beautifully. Almost everything is either brand new, replaced or rebuilt. I also have many of the original pieces to go along with the car. Over $35k invested in this car. Asking $19,500.

Pictures of car before, during, and after restoration can be found here:

Car has been driven sparingly only due to my time, but has made both short and long hauls including most recently a 500 mile roundtrip to upstate NY where it was invited to participate in the Hemmings Concours last September. It also won 1st in its class at the CCBCC event the summer of 2015 (didn't attend in 2016)

This is an absolute beauty. Needs nothing. Show winner. Drives great. Ready for summer and a new home! Selling because I am investing a new vehicle and therefore a couple of cars must go.
