Description

**PLEASE SCROLL DOWN THE AD LISTING PAGE TO VIEW A COMPLETE SET OF DETAILED PHOTOS OF THE VEHICLE**KURT TANNER MOTORCARS is proud to offer this superb TR3A Sports Roadster. This car was just purchased from only the second owner on record in the car's 56-year history. This car was purchased new in San Diego, California from British Motor Sales Co. on April 20th, 1961. It was enjoyed by the first owner for about 30 years. During the late 1980's it was sympathetically and carefully restored by a British car enthusiast in the Encinitas area of San Diego county. This involved at least a full cosmetic restoration, but lots of original items were saved and reused to ensure the car retained as much of it's original character as possible. The car was then sold to it's second owner in Torrance, California around 1991 and has been garaged, maintained and well cared for by him since. I'm sure this car has never lived an evening outside, as it's condition shows...This car appears to be completely rustfree and accident free. The body on this car is superb with per-factory gaps, excellent fitting chromework, and great shutlines. The body and paintwork present beautifully. Grille fit is outstanding. The car is believed to have only been painted once in it's life, with zero to very minimal bodywork, I'm sure. The car's interior trim is in superb condition. Amazingly, it still retains it's original panel kit in near perfect condition and original dashboard facia, with a very accurate black loop replacement carpet kit, front rubber floormats, and leather seat kits. The top frame has never been repainted with it's original strapping material. The dashboard instruments and switchgear are mint, with the original dash knobs still present. Weather equipment is the believed original white tonneau cover, now dyed black, with a good condition replacement Robbins white soft top, and reproduction-style aluminum sidecurtains.Mechanically, it starts easily on the button with the same expectations as the rest of the car: Excellent oil pressure, no smoke or noises, revs well with a very good shifting gearbo, good clutch action and brakes to match. Typical robust Triumph mechanicals. A quick jaunt around the block turns into a rewarding 20 minute drive. Underside inspection reveals many new front suspension items, which indicates a front end rebuild. The car's undercarriage is very clean and detailed, and has been nicely restored in keeping with the rest of the car's overall condition. The sale of the car includes it's scarce and rarely seen tool kit in it's plastic pouch, extra sets of keys, original service voucher booklet, factory warranty cards, period workshop manuals, old California registrations, folder of recent receipts ($8,000), lifting jack with handle, spare tire and rim, full weather equipment, and pair of original issue California black license plates.Triumph TR3's led rough and abused lives, since they were very affordable sports cars of the period. They became basic transportation cars for most, with many stories heard about how struggling college students purchased and "used" them for as little as a few hundred dollars. As a result, it is becoming exceedingly rare to find excellent, original, well-preserved, restored examples like this one here. This irreplaceable, two-owner, California TR3A is fully sorted both cosmetically and mechanically, and is ready for enjoyment. It's a gem of a motorcar and is presented in it's crisp and refreshing original period color scheme, with a known history from new. Rare opportunity to acquire a seriously good one.
