This TR4 chassis is currently being displayed without its body. The former owner purchased an impressively restored 64 TR4, but was upset to find that the original frame flexed. He bought a RATCO replacement frame and fully intended to reassemble the car back to stock form. But at some point he was inspired to rebuild the car for dual use, track and street. Researching the ideal components to use, he then devoted untold hours to rebuilding the motor and chassis that you see in the photos. When we acquired the vehicle the purchase included the “rest of the car”, all parts properly restored and in boxes awaiting reassembly. We decided to initially display the frame/chassis in our warehouse as a work of industrial art. The thought was, we could always reassemble it, but why not enjoy it as it sits for a while. Visitors to our garage are always fascinated by this frame/chassis creation. Their reactions have dampened our inspiration to reassemble it and return it to the street. We know that this decision will annoy a lot of true car folks……….saying the car is meant to be driven.

What should its future be? That will be up to the new owner. Maybe that individual will continue its tenure as an impressive work of automotive art, or it might land in the hands of someone who is looking forward to putting it back on the street and driving the heck out of it. Or the new owner might be an individual that will appreciate displaying it for a period of time and then, when time permits, orchestrate or conduct its reassembly.

The former owner indicated a huge investment in the car.… acquisition from a dealer in CA @$22K, motor and head work alone approaching $20k. He did not provide a $$$ amount for the frame and all the chassis components….... experienced observers will have some sense of the total investment in this vehicle, just for the parts alone.

The tub and all body panels were repainted black in 2011. All panels are in great shape. With eBay’s limitation of 24 photos, we could not display more of the car. We can provide additional high quality photos to those who establish contact with us. (call Michael at 610-246-8850) We have 23 photos of the motor/chassis, 20 photos of chassis details, 7 photos of the tub, and 33 photos of all the parts displayed on blankets. The door glass and seat frames are there also. The fenders and doors are wrapped in blankets. All other body parts are in sturdy storage bins from Home Depot. The hood remains unpainted since it was elsewhere at the time of the respray….. not sure why it was not at the body shop. The trunk lid sits on the tub and can be seen in the additional photos.

A quote from the former owner posted on a website monitoring the sale in 2012 …..

I sold the chassis and the fully painted (black) body to a buyer in California who plans to complete the body construction and suspend it above the chassis with stainless steel cables. While this would be an awesome show piece, my plans were to use it as a track day car and drive the wheels off of it. Overall, it was a fun project. Wish I could have completed it, but when I moved, I simply didn’t have the room or time to complete it.

BTW, I sold it before I fabricated the frame attachments for the Watts linkage, which also btw, I custom fabricated in my shop out of high strength aluminum. Would I do it again…of course! Will I do it again, who knows.

We never got around to suspending the body ..… the owner of the warehouse where we rent did not approve of the idea.
