1954 SWALLOW DORETTI ROADSTER
Description
I am listing this rare car for the owner and he reserves the right to cancel this ad at any time for any reason. This is a one family owned car from new and I believe the first time offered for sale to the general public.
The Swallow Doretti was a product of the Swallow Coachbuilding Company, best known for their motorcycle side cars and their association with Jaguar before WWII. In 1954, the Doretti entered production.
Based on the Triumph TR2 it had much improved stability, its track was 3in (76mm) wider and its wheelbase 7in (178mm) longer. The Doretti had a tubularReynolds 531molybdenum, medium-carbon steel chassis. The body had an inner structural made of steel and an aluminium outer skin.Engine placement was further back, which resulted in even weight distribution. Styling was byFrank Rainbow of Tube Investments who evoked the look of some early Ferraris with his front end design. With stunning appearance, excellent handling and 100mph performance, the Doretti was praised by automotive enthusiasts. Due to pressure from the British Motor Industry, the Doretti ceased production in 1955 with only 276 examples produced. With less than 80 known to exist today, the Swallow Doretti remains highly prized in vintage sports car circles and are highly sought-after by collectors.
This car was restored many years ago then put in storage. The fuel system has been cleaned and starts instantly with good oil pressure. The body is in very good condition with only a couple areas on the hoods that were damaged in storage and need a little paint work and possibly rechrome the bumpers if you want show quality. As the photos show there is a seam separation on the seat.
Overall, it is in very good driver condition and would be a great addition to any car collection and will stand out at any Cars and Coffee event anywhere in the world. This is one lucky persons chance to own a very rare and beautiful sports car. If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer or put you in contact with the owner. Payment must be made in full by wire transfer or cash before the car will be released. Thanks for looking.
