Description

This is a real pleasure to drive. It has been frame-off restoration, custom side window glass, Triumph GT6 drivetrain swap, Triumph GT6 Brakes, Triumph GT6 bonnet and doors, GT6 suspension as well.

New paint, bodywork, and a 2.0L six cylinder engine from a 1966 Triumph GT6.

The engine setup fully dialed in recent months with a re-bored block, rebuilt cylinder head, and new pistons.

This is a unique Spitfire built by an enthusiast with good attention to detail and a great exhaust note (driving video upon request).

The initial frame-off restoration was undertaken from 2012-2014, and included a rotisserie restoration of the 1964 body shell with refreshed floors and rockers and a bare-metal repaint. British Racing Green was chosen and the car sitsover 60-spoke Dayton wire wheels.

Quad-tip exhausts give the car a cool look from the rear.

Custom glass was made for this application, as the Spitfire lacked the coupe’s vent windows and the side glass hasa slight curve.

The interior retains a factory-type appearance, with grey carpets and black upholstered surfaces. A modern headunit is fitted in the center stack, with a pair of speakers in the rear bulkhead. The door panels, tunnel and kick panels are uncut. The factory 2-spoke steering wheel suits the OEM-character of the car nicely. The tach was recently rebuilt and calibrated by Nisonger.

In recent months we tore the engine down completely to try to get the engine to rev correctly, including:

  • Block re-bored, new pistons fitted
  • Rebuilt cylinder head
  • Crank turned, next size of bearings fitted
  • New oil pump
  • Distributor rebuilt by Advanced Distributors in Minnesota, now capable of delivering spark to 8k RPM.

To retain the look of an early factory-built car this example retains the glass-bowl fuel pump and a generator rather than an alternator.

The chassis and floors are solid.

Being based on an early GT6, this example retains the swing axle rear suspension common to the Spitfire and Mk.I GT6, and is suspended on transverse leaf springs.

The GT6 owners handbook comes with the car. Two sets of keys are shown, one set sports a custom laser-engraved aluminum plate with the car’s specific tune-up specifications. A camber compensator, oil cooler kit and spare oil filters will be included with the sale.

Will be sold to the highest bidder by the end of the week. Full payment required within 3 days.
