Description

I'm listing my 1974 VW camper bus for sale. It is a Westaflia Weekender, also called a "tin Top". It's in pretty nice overall condition and has very little rust. I got it from a friend who bought it a couple years ago, did a bit of mechanical work to it and drove it around for a while. He planned to repaint it and do the interior but decided he would rather have a bug. At that time, I had a pretty nice bug that I planned to sell so we traded. I have had it sitting around for several months and done nothing with it so it's got to go. If you are looking for a bus to jump in and drive this one is great because it's nice enough to be used but not so perfect that you would be afraid to leave it in a parking lot. If you are interested in restoring one of these though, it would be hard to do better than this one too.
I don't know a lot about this particular Bus but it seems to run pretty well. It sat in my garage for several months but it started right up yesterday. I hosed the dust off of it, drove it for about 20 miles and I was pleased with how it went. It goes down the road well for an old bus. The lights, gauges and wipers all work. The heat even sort of works. The tires are a little old and dry but have a decent amount of tread left. I would't be afraid to get in it and drive cross country.
Externally, it's definitely a "ten footer". The only rust it has is under the battery (typical) and a small spot on the left front dog leg. There are couple minor dents here and there but nothing too horrible. There is a spot on the passengers door that looks as if someone started grinding out some body filler and a spot on the left dog leg with some filler and a couple holes drilled in it. The nose isn't perfect underneath the spare tire but it's decent. The door and window seals are a dry but still serviceable. it was originally white and appears to have been repainted at some point. The nose and left door look to have been touched up at some with spray paint as well.
On the mechanical side, it's a had a lot of work done to it. The previous owner is a pretty decent mechanic. Here is a list he gave me of the things that were replaced on it:
* New 2 barrel carb - replaced the worn out dual carbs* New header and muffler* Tune up (plugs, points, cap, rotor, condenser, valve adjustment)* New electric fuel pump, lines and filter* New front brake rotors and calipers* New shift coupler and shift rod bushings* New taillights* New windshield and seal
I don't know if the engine is the original one but it is a stock 1800cc type 4 engine. It runs well and doesn't have any major oil leaks. The transmission shifts smoothly and it had no problem holding 65 mph on the highway. the steering has a little play but nothing too bad. It stops well too. It was everything I expected in a old bus, and I've owned several over the years. The odometer reads 59,267 but I'm sure it's turned over at least once. The interior, much like the exterior is far from perfect but it's decent. The front seats are in fair condition. The rear seat/bed has been recovered but it has a small tear in it. It has been fitted with some cheap carpet in place of the original stuff. I peeled it up a bit to look for any rust and I found a bit of surface rust but nothing too bad. I believe that it originally had a sink behind the driver's seat but this seems to have been replaced with a seat from a'69-ish Westaflia (I think). It doesn't have a radio but it has some speaker holes cut into the front door panels. The door panel that goes on the sliding door is not attached but I'll toss it in the back of the bus.
I've one my best to give an honest description of this bus and take pictures that show the overall condition of it as I want the new owner to be happy with their purchase. I'm located in Arvada, Colorado. Overseas buyers are welcome. Buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements. I will be happy to help with local transportation. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!
