Description
Vehicle Overview 1972 was a very exciting year for Volkwagen. On the 17th of February 1972, Beetle number 15,007,033 rolled off the assembly line forever entering the record books as the World Champion, the car produced in the highest number, beating Henry Ford's model T.
The color of that record breaking car was a special color called Marathon Blue. Other differences were the baja wheels that each wheel had a silver wheel nut cap and hexagonal VW Aluminum hub covers. Taper Tip tail pipes
Volkswagen celebrated this milestone by producing a number of special edition cars for the world market. In Europe they were known as the Marathon Edition (or Weltmeister). In Australia the cars received special numbered plaques and in the US, the car was dubbed as the Baja SE, celebrating not only the production milestone but VW's success in off road racing.
This Marathon edition '72 is in good shape and shows a lot of pride of ownership, but like any classic it isn't perfect. The high back bucket seats are in good shape but do show daily driver type of wear. The underside is very solid, but you can see one spot around the right rear where there is some evidence of rust repair.
