(Another note on the pictures: The light was really dancing around on me the day I was taking the outdoor pictures and a light gray is really hard with a lot of light. I tried to take the pictures in various lighting conditions so that you could see how it looks during different times of day. The Interior pictures were really tough and most of the outdoor pictures make the interior look gray. I can assure you they are a light beige and look awesome. Come view it in person if you are local, it is the only way to truly appreciate the character of the patina in the paint and quality of the body.

I have been restoring and collecting Porsche’s, Corvettes and VW’s for about 25 years and have also been involved in Judging cars at concour events in Southern CA.

These little “Verts” are getting harder and harder to find, especially in “no hit”… zero rust condition. The Owner is a friend of mine and I am helping him sell it as he is in the midst of a move. He is available if anyone wants to talk to him.

The owner before this current owner believed the car to have always been in the Southern CA area, but we have no “absolute” proof of this. The odometer was rebuilt about a year and a half ago with very few miles since rebuilding. My study of the car would confirm that it has always been in this dry climate as there is zero rust anywhere (other than minor surface on the undercarriage and in front tire storage area).

The body is in superb condition and free of any major dents or damage. The original paint can be seen in the door jams, front underside of hood and down in the spare tire well, around the engine bay area and engine lid, the entire interior door frames, dash, etc.

The exterior paint is the original color and was resprayed likely many years ago, 80’s - 90’s sometime and was done in single stage like it was originally finished from the factory. It is what I would call a “semi-gloss” patina finish. It is my favorite type of finish and if I took a buffer to it lightly I am sure I could buff it up to probably a mirror finish. If you are the buyer and want that done before it ships I would be happy to make it happen for a reasonable fee. I have repainted and cut and polished hundreds of cars over the last 40 years.

I absolutely cannot stress how much I like this car JUST LIKE IT IS!!! People kill for this look of an original paint finish. The paint looks as though it is the original paint and I had to study if for some time before I determined it was not. The car was painted by someone that knew what they were doing, as there is no overspray anywhere. Touch-up was applied to several areas around the body where I thought it needed it. They were mostly on the passenger side rear fender; a long scratch and some smaller spots that touched up easily. The touch-up paint match was not perfect but it looks “cool”.

The front bumper is a new (1 year) Wolfsburg and looks great. The fit and finish are superb on their reproductions. The rear bumper is in good shape but the chrome is semi-dull on the corners. Still it looks great against the rest of the patina on the car. Interestingly the wheels were removed and stripped and repainted. The wheel covers are not perfect but are fantastic driver quality.

The Interior was totally redone with original style reproduction materials. The seats were completely re-cushioned and are very comfortable. The carpet was replaced and there is a new rubber mat in place for your feet. The top was completely rebuilt; meaning it was stripped to the bare bones, repainted and then new clips and springs and bows were applied as well as a brand new vinyl top that fits superbly. The top functions just like it should and is easy for one person to place in the up or down position. The boot looks newer and fits well. A new windshield was applied within the last two years.

The engine was completely rebuilt using a new long block. Some new tin was purchased along with new fire wall vinyl and a new muffler. The engine runs phenomenally for an original 1600 style engine. This car would have come with a 1300, so this new engine adds a nice kick to the freeway on ramp. This little bugs moves with authority. It drives straight down the road thanks to a newly rebuilt front-end. The transmission works well and shifts through all the gears smooth and effortlessly. The brake system was completely gone through including the master cylinder and the car stops straight and true. Tires appear to have about 90+ percent tread remaining. No receipt so have no idea how old they may be.

The car has plenty of power going up hills and drives straight down the road and brakes with authority. This is the nicest running early VW I have ever driven. It feels as if it is brand new.

Over $13K was spent on the mechanical side, top & interior over the last two years. Needless to say everything works on this vehicle.

If you love the look of a survivor/patina type car, with virtually everything mechanically having been attended to, this would be a great car for you. If you are inclined to show quality, a strip of the paint would bring this Southern California rust free car to top show condition.

This is one fun little bug to drive and enjoy. It gets consistent 25 mpg and won’t nickel and dime you to death, as everything has been done!!

Questions may be directed to Frank at 949-310-6262. If you are in Southern CA please feel free to make an appointment to see this wonderful VW before you bid. This is a No Reserve Auction and will sell to the highest bidder.
