Description

Original paint 1965 Volkswagen Beetle. This project was not meant to be kept as original as it has. However, as we progressed with the work, it became apparent how original the car was and therefore our efforts were redirected. Granted, this is not a museum piece by any means but it is fairly well preserved and much of the original car is still there. The basic goal was to have a very solid, dependable, durable and cool cruiser. It has achieved all of those goals.

List of things done to the car (not exhaustive):
Pretty much all of the items removed and replaced have been kept (probably a lot of stuff no one will really want).
Brakes - complete, new system except hardlines and drums. Including new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, springs, shoes and hoses. Drum brakes front and rear.
New tires - brand new in front, rear are barely used but older.
New carpet, rubber mats and custom seat covers. Seats have recliners, not installed. Seat cover material was intended to mimic original color and patterns. Original door panels, handles (1 new window crank) and headliner remain.
New 12 volt alternator and new belt.
New points, plugs, wires, condenser, rotor and coil.
Rebuilt 28 pict carburetor.
New fuel pump.
New cloth braided fuel line except original hard line through tunnel. New copper fuel line around right side of fan shroud.
New clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, clutch cable
New accelerator cable
New accelerator pedal assembly kit (springs, etc.)
Header, used and new tucked muffler.
New lowered oil shocks front and rear.
4" Narrowed front beam with single air bag in center, dropped spindles and polyurethane bushings. Through rods top and bottom.
New steering box, steering damper and tie rod ends.
Stock 40hp engine, not original to car. Has 12 volt flywheel and 12 volt starter. Although not a powerhouse, runs quite smooth and well. New rear main seal, oil cooler seals and valve cover gaskets. Recent oil change.
Transaxle is not original and is 12 volt. Fresh Brad Penn lube and new axle boots.
Air bags front (only one in front) and rear. 3 Gallon aluminum air tank and Viair 380 compressor. Electric solenoids with switches (2 - one up and down for front and one up and down for rear) hidden under dash to left of steering wheel. Dual needle air gauge mounted under dash to the right of the steering wheel.
The windshield wipers are still 6 volt and do not work nor does the radio, which appears to be original to the car. All of the glass seems to be original to the car as well although the windshield is cracked. It does have rear quarter pop-out windows.
