Volkswagen 181 VW Thing 1973 with *** MAJOR UPGRADES ***
Description
Just dropped another 3k off price-- lowest I can possibly go.
Hello! Thank you for taking a look at this VW Thing-- please take a moment to read why this this is a great buy!
To start-- I have 23k in it already- here is why:
This does not have your grandmother's 1600 vw engine. It has a Scat 2187 tuned engine shipped in from California and installed professionally here in Austin. It go fast-- cruises 70mph like a dream and I think it could do 100mph (but I've never tried). The engine polishes up to a beautiful chrome and sounds amazing with the upgraded stainless muffler. The clutch was also upgraded to a heavier duty version at Kenny hill VW specialists. I have less than 1000 miles on this engine.
It has a brand new oil cooler custom fit into the engine bay-- this actually took quite a bit of work to get in properly-- including fabbing up several custom shrouds and mounts.
It has a brand new Painless Wiring system professionally installed-- so all new wires, all new switches-- everything works but the speedometer (which is a hard to find item-- was planning on sending it out for refurbishing) new lights and housings in rear, new bulbs all around.
It has all new brakes and has been thoroughly gone over in all of the linkages etc for safety.
It has a new top and the new beefier frame. New rubber and it will come with a box of all sorts of brand new items from the thing shop I haven't put on yet because I wanted to only use if I decided to paint it.
It has great tires and a straight stance- most things sit high in the front and look goofy-- this one looks straight and sits handsomely.
Comes with a new redtop battery. windshield wipers work and have two speeds. high beams work, flood lights work great. Comes with a car cover made for it. New ignition switch and aftermarket wooden steering wheel.
It's going in this week for a tune up whether it sells or not.
SO-- you can buy a thing with lots of makeup and toot around, or you can purchase a super solid one that you can enjoy immensely now- or go ahead and paint it and have a killer one.
Things it needs: reupholstery or seat covers for front seat. Rear bench. Back passenger side floor board needs attention, I have a steel plate welded in there now, but it needs to be cleaned up and sealed. thats really it-- it needs a good detailing and you have the option to do some minor body work and paint it. I left it rugged by brushing off any small rust spots on panels and clear coating them. the front left corner has a small dent as seen in picture.
I have a walk around video you can watch on Vimeo under the key words "VW THING SCAT"
This vehicle is in Austin Texas. Feel free to ask to come see it in person. It has been described honest and fair to the best of my knowledge-- but it is a 44 year old car and as such is sold strictly as is. Please ask any questions you may have before bidding. Please see my rating, I am not here to sell junk at this price- this is an awesome Thing and the hard work has been done already to make it the most fun one to drive.
$500 deposit due immediately and balance due in cash or cashiers check upon pickup. I will assist loading if shipping, otherwise its's local pickup.
