1973 Volkswagen Thing - The Ultimate Beach Car!
Description
Up for auction is a 1973 Volkswagen Thing. Car had been sitting for years and has been recently been brought back to life. The floor pan has been cleaned and coated with POR-15. The original front pan section is in remarkably good shape without any rust issues. The rear battery pan has been replaced (very common on this car) and coated with POR-15 and then Dynamat to prevent any future issues. The car has the rare VW dealer installed chrome upgraded wheels and rollbar.
THE GOOD:
Clean title and current California registration.Original engine fires right up and has good compression.Low miles (115K)New Thing Shop convertible top with crystal clear rear window.New Thing Shop front and rear seat covers.New Thing Shop carpet kit.New Thing Shop coco mat for trunk.New Thing Shop coco mat for glovebox.New Empi performance short shifter.New Hella offroad lights installed (need to be wired as original wiring was connected direct to the headlights - I have new Hella wire kit and switch to go with the car)New master cylinder.New hard and soft brake lines.New ignition lock.New distributor.New plugs and wires.New Bosch voltage regulator.New carburetor.New front German military glass grade window curtains. (very rare and expensive)New rear windows curtains.
THE BAD:The paint job is 25+ years old and is showing its age- if you are OK with an old patina its fine for a beach cruiser but not a show car.The car has been sitting for many years and will definitely need to be gone thru to make it a daily driver but most of the hard work has been done already. All original gas heater equipment is still on the car but will need to be cleaned/serviced before using.
I have a very reasonable reserve set. Car is located at my Irvine California warehouse and inspections prior to end of auction are available and recommended. My phone number is 949.933.3331
