Description

Up for grabs is my 1971 Vw bus westfalia. This bus had a rough life prior to making it way into my hands. It had roof flashing pop riveted on for rockers and various other questionable repairs. After sitting 15 years in Florida I stumbled across it while on vacation, and brought it back home with me to give it some love. Once back home I flushed the gas tank, replaced the ignition system and rebuilt the carburetor. After dropping in a fresh battery, it fired right up and ran healthy and strong with no noticeable oil leaks. Sweet! After going on its first maiden voyage in 15 years my girlfriend wanted to redo the seats so we had something a little nicer to sleep on. While I had the westy bed out, she was working on the covers and I decided to put a checkered floor in. After we put the new cushions back in, it looked kinda nice. So then I made all new door and wall panels. That really freshened it up. Then we decided to replace the torn and tattered poptop canvas. Sourcing some new material from the local fabric store, we went to town. Figured while the top was off we’d paint the roof. After the new canvas was installed and the freshly painted roof and poptop installed, it only made sense to start working on it down low and make it sound again. I welded in a new rocker on the long side. Patched the front floors. Patched the lower outside doglegs. Patched the battery trays and tried to fix or correct some of the roof flashing that was glued on and riveted and such. It started out as just going to be a rat camper we could drive thru rivers and camp anywhere and not give two $hits about its appearance. Well that bus is long gone. After doing some body work I shot some ppg high build primer and 4 coats of single stage enamel on it. If you’re looking for a bus that wins best in show, this aint it. You’ll have to spend the 30+ thousand for that bus. This bus is meant to be camped in and enjoyed. Go to vw camp outs and shows. Its a very nice bus and it needs to be back on the road again and not a trailer queen. Its runs, drives and stops well. None of which it does with perfection. The paint job is fresh, glossy and driver quality. Theres still bumps and bruises present here and there. Theres orange peel here and there too. I just want to be up front about this. This is not a every nut and bolt restored restoration. It’s a “lets fix it up a little and go camping” bus that we went way overboard on LOL. Its a entry level bus that looks awesome, drives good and plenty of love left to give. We spent several hundred hours making it into the beauty you see today. If you’re looking for a really cool bus that presents well and you can throw your gear in and enjoy, then this bus is for you. The bus has a hairline crack in the windshield in the middle. The tires have full tread. The upper cot and lower childs cot and bug screen are still with the bus. The canvas for those is tired. The original cabinets could use a good scrubbing. The entire bus has fresh paint inside and out. It has push button start. All new door panels and hardboard headliner. New poptop. Any questions feel free to ask. Bus sold as is where is. Happy bidding and merry xmas :)
