1980 VW Rabbit Diesel Pickup 16k original miles
Description
I have a 1980 VW Rabbit 1.5 Diesel pickup in great condition. It had been stored in a barn since '85 here in Arkansas. I purchased it two years ago with only 15k miles on it and have put about 800 miles on it in that time. I purchased it because I've always liked them and enjoy working on old trucks. It now starts and runs great but needs a good paint job to be a show car. If I keep it around the farm here I'll only trash it on these gravel roads. This is just too good of an old Rabbit diesel pickup not to become a show truck or somebody's prize possession.
Engine starts great, transmission shifts fine but a little close on the 1st and reverse area. Probably some worn or aged rubber parts would help that alot but I have no problem driving it as it is. AC works fine. All air handler doors work except the fresh-recirculate door which has a defective servo diaphragm and is always closed. Color is light blue inside and out and the body is good except for a slightly banged up tailgate. Bed is a bit rusty and would be fine with a rhino-coat or sandblasting. There is one quarter sized rusty area near the passenger wiper but not rusted through anywhere. Many small rust dots on the old original paint job. I had planned to get it painted and may do so if it doesn't sell.
Seats are fine with no tears, also light blue. Drivers seat shows some use but passenger seat looks new. Dash has several cracks but is complete. Windshield has a rock impact in the drivers lower right view and a coupla other chips. I have not found them to be an issue while driving. This truck has vacuum assisted brakes but manual steering. Front wheel drive with new tires on the front. Runs great on pump diesel or bio-diesel.
