Description

For sale is my 1981 Volkswagen Caddy Sportruck. This truck has been in my family since 2008 and has been a fantastic trouble free truck. In 2013 we took it off of the road to replace the stock 1.7l engine with a 1.6 turbo diesel from a mk2 Jetta. The engine was compression tested at 420lbs/cylinder so we didn't rebuild the engine but we did replace crank and connecting rod bearings, front and rear main seals, cam seal, valve cover seal, pan seal, etc. Timing belt, timing tensioner, alternator, water pump, thermostat, all hoses were replaced as well. I had the turbo professionally rebuilt with the core replaced by Borg Warner. The turbo injection pump was also rebuilt completely by a Bosch certified rebuilder in Salt Lake City with no expense spared. Custom 2.5" exhaust from turbo downpipe. The truck gets incredible mileage and pulls hard under load.
Front suspension is a raceland coilover kit, all brakes were replaced and serviced. both CV axles were replaced as well. All 4 tires have very low mileage on them as well.
The truck has the rare factory Sportruck option. The stickers had been removed when I purchased the truck but the I found a set of black stripes in the UK so I had them shipped out and installed.
The dashboard was also cracked so I sourced the dashboard in the car in Missouri and drove from Las Vegas to go retrieve it.
Body on the truck is in incredible condition. The truck had the same chassis rail rot that is common in these trucks but the previous owner spent $2k having it professionally replaced at a body shop, the work and overall fit of panels is very good. there are small dings here and there around the truck but metal seems to be in fantastic condition.
I've spared no expense on this truck over the years. If something needs to be replaced, I buy the highest quality part. The turbo and injection pump alone were nearly $2,000.00. It only needs a good interior detail, paint and matching seats and it could be a great show truck. I have a kid on the way and I just don't drive it much anymore so it needs to go to a good home with someone who can enjoy it.
