Description

Here is the good stuff, Its a 1989 VW Syncro DOKA with triple knobs. Everything is there. It also has a pretty rare set up with a factory carburetor, a south african style headlight assembly, and beefy bumpers. Its a pass through cab, and some one set it up for dual batteries.
Here is the realities of it.I came bought this in a lien sale and I was going to do the subaru swap and get it all ready to have some fun. I got a kid on the way and I am building a house, so I got to get rid of my projects. This is currently located in SF CA. It is not in the CA system yet, but has NJ title, I spoke with the smog referee and it can get registered here but it will cost you a few bucks and you will have to switch the engine out that is currently in there (which I was going to do anyways). He said no prob registering in 49 other states so keep that in mind if you are a CA buyer. Technically it runs, but it needs some love. It has a 1.9L carburated engine with no catalytic converter and a pretty beat up exhaust system. If fires right up but I would spend some time and money on the engine getting it a little more road worthy. Email me and I can provide some vids of it running. I did a bit of research on this particular truck and it was imported by a less the reputable individual so I do not think the mileage is correct on it (european vin and MPH odometer) It was from a cold climate so it does have the usual rust in the treasure chest, and a bit on the seam lines. I have had VWs with worse rust and some with less. (my 1959 single cab is a total rust bucket and I am replacing a ton of body panels) The exhaust manifold is near toast so that will need to be replaced, and there is a bit of rust in the rear panel connections. There is only one spot of rust in the frame that is of any real concern. Someone coated it with truck liner, so its a bit of a pain in the ass to remove, but I put some solvent on it on the under carriage and it came off pretty easily. Just time and a few six packs of beer to strip it clean for paint. The interior is all there, but the seats are near the end of the fabrics life. The headliner is intact. Its missing the rear engine deck lid, and the lens for the front smaller headlight. Everything else is there I tracked a lid down but its around 500 bucks so its the next owners problem. You could probably score one cheaper. The brakes need some work, the shocks need to be replaced, and the rubber lines are all tired. This truck has really not been touched mechanically and it needs work. I didnt really care since I was going to strip all that out and re-do the entire enchilada so if you are buying this its not really a turn key its a project. Feel free to email me and I am totally open to any questions you got.I have the original purchase reciept and they bought it for over 20k. If you are in Oregon, Washington, Nevada or California I can deliver it for you on a trailer if you cover gas and trailer rental and a steak dinner for two. If its further out of that range touch base with me and we can perhaps work something out. I can also arrange shipping. If you know what this is you know how tough it is to find these guys in the states. I hope it goes to a good home and I am setting the reserve at my cost and starting the auction at 10k.
