1961 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic A rare and original 1961 VW Beetle Deluxe Rag Top California car. Meticulous body off restoration transformed this classic beauty in an almost brand new car that is reliable, beautiful and fun to drive. Body was fully disassembled and put back together with mostly new top quality restoration parts (German parts when available). All metal parts sanded to the bare metal and received a top quality three-stage paint in the VW's period correct mouse gray color. The frame was sand blasted and fully powder coated in black. The body reinstalled on the newly powder coated frame with new fender beading and fasteners. Glasses replaced with new window rubber and chrome moldings. New pop-out rear windows installed. Many exterior and interior chrome parts replaced including front and rear bumpers, mirrors, door handles and headlights. The engine is an original 1200 cc 40 hp and it is in real top condition. This classic VW Bug runs excellent and smoothly and has enough power to easily maintaining cruising freeway speeds. A professionally rebuilt four speed fully synchronized transmission, a new clutch and pressure plate also installed. The non-baffled angle cut chrome tail pipes produce a nice sportier engine exhaust sound. This bug has a 12 Volt electrical system and all electrical parts work perfectly. New wiring loo, battery and cables. Suspension and brake parts were also replaced with top quality components. Car also received new chrome BRM wheels and staggered size tires. An amplified car stereo system installed in the glove compartment puts out a nice, clear and loud sound. There is an original push button radio however not functional. Dynamat brand sound acoustical panels installed on the floor (under the carpet), under the back seat, inside door panels, trunk and engine compartment. The extensive use of this premium material makes this bug the quietest I have seen driving around. Original German square weave 100% wool grey carpet was also installed, with rubber liners covering it all (front and rear). The new headliner is in the same cloth material that was original on the Deluxe edition for this car back in 1961. The front seats are Procar low back recliner style, covered with the same vinyl material used on the door panels and back seat (oxide red and ivory). The black rag top canvas is also new and the aluminum rails were hand polished to bring back its original shine. No money spared in this passionate restoration where nothing but the best available restoration parts used (most provided by Wolfsburg West and West Coast Classic Restoration (both based in Southern California).
