1961 15-Window Walkthrough Deluxe Bus 112 More Professional Photos, and 3 Video Links On Our Website

Up for sale is this extremely rare and desirable 1961 Volkswagen 15-Window Walkthrough Bus. A 15-window walk through bus is far rarer than a 21 or even 23 window bus. It has the same VIN designation as a 23 window, and also has some unique features that only came on the 15 and 23 window buses. This particular 15 window bus is an early walkthrough model and features all of the desirable early bus features such as ice pick door handles, bullet blinkers, small tail lights, big spoon pop out latches, etc. It has also been fitted with a set of incredibly hard to find ambulance fans (not wired) as well as a Blaupunkt radio. Features original dash clock, chrome ash tray, original floor mats, correct short middle seat with ashtray, grab handle, kick panels, Como green Deluxe interior, carpeted rear hatch mat, etc. This Bus started life in sunny California and remained with its original owner until the early 90’s when it was acquired by another CA resident that kept the bus until 2009. It then went to WA state and OK for a few years before I purchased it in March of 2018 from the previous owner in Oklahoma. Believe it or not, this bus received a cosmetic restoration in the mid 80’s and STILL looks better than most recently restored buses on the market! It is finished in L380 Turquoise (Turkis Green) over L87 Pearl White. We were told it was restored by the best people that were available in CA in the 80’s and it shows! This Bus has NEVER been hit. It features its original floors, nose, uncut dash, corners, roof clip, etc. There is ZERO bondo in this bus and every aspect of the metal is nearly flawless. This is a true survivor bus that was not rotting in a field a few years ago and then had its lower 12 inches of metal replaced 6 months ago. The quality of work and paint on this bus speaks for itself. Don’t be fooled by a recently restored bus that will have chips, cracks, and issues 1-2 years from now. Also, if you’re spent much time around these buses, you’ll know that no doors fit quite as good as original doors. The gaps and lines on this bus are superb. I cannot say enough about how clean and straight this bus is! The Bus features safari front pop out windows, Bosch European Louvered headlights, Westfalia style roof rack, splash guards (front skid plate included), original Deluxe trim, rocker spears, outer vent trim, bumper trim, etc. The running gear is is a 1915cc with Dual 40mm Webbers (just installed 6 months ago from CB performance) Deep sump oil pan, remote oil filter housing, finned valve covers, serpentine belt setup, electronic ignition, Engle 110 Cam, 1.5” merged ceramic coated headers, 95amp alternator, etc. Gas tank fully sealed and painted, new KYB shocks, new hard lines, stainless braided brake lines, front and rear Type 3 disc brakes, narrowed and adjustable 67’ ball joint beam, dual circuit master cylinder for 4 wheel disc brakes, etc. 15x7 smoothie wheels made by Deep Veez and wide whitewall tires installed 50 miles (6 months) ago. The motor has less than 2,000 miles on it and makes a lot of power! It starts easy, revs smooth and quick. Very snappy throttle response and no expense spared! The Transmission is a freeway flyer that was fully rebuilt about 6 years ago (300 miles or so). Loads of receipts from the last 20 years of ownership totaling roughly $10k in service, maintenance, and upgrades. It would easily cost $100k or more to recreate this bus today, that is if you were able to find an early 15-window walkthrough at all!
