1984 Vanagon Camper
Description
Yes a 1984 Vanagon Westfalia. Gas engine, manual transmission. AND a story....A while back I took a trip to Alaska with my other 84 Westfalia, I got an 85 Westfalia so my sister could travel with me. We got back and I sold off the 85. Earlier this year she calls up and says she REALLY REALLY wants one of her very own and could I pretty please get her one? You know, buy it, fix it up and she'd come pick it up....So I do JUST that..I wanted something worthwhile, which, as you know because you're looking at this ad, isn't simple or cheap. I found this one. So it needed a clutch and a poptop canvas and..(insert long, LONG list). Along with those things it got new exhaust, full service on the engine, new front heater motor. Took it for inspection and the guy there said "Yeah, your upper ball joints will PASS but they are worn.." In go two new upper and two new lower ball joints. Because it is apart anyway, new upper control arm bushings and tie rod ends. We having fun yet? A few other minor things all fixed like a gas tank reseal and shifter bushings because, hey, it's my sister, right? She comes to see it on her way south..."Wow! This is nice....ummm...but I wanted an automatic....."...I should have been an only child...So! The van. When I got it the title was marked "mileage not correct" or whatever. The odometer didn't work which might be the reason. I swapped out the speedometer and it shows fewer miles. I have no idea about the miles on this is and it is sold with "mileage unknown". My other 84 just passed 400K miles so really, condition is the important part. The body is sound. I've tried to show the "bad parts" but bad is not really BAD. The lower seam on the driver's side has been blasted, primed and painted but not "fixed" What you see is 100% what is there. Beware of vans with no seam showing there as someone has covered up things and you don't know what. I don't know what the scrape is on the slide door and panel but it's been there a while and doesn't affect the door operation and so on. Interior is clean and everything works. Yes, that means stove sink and fridge.
It runs and drives well. However it is a 35 year old vehicle. It will be sold "AS IS". What that means is you MIGHT be able to pick it up and drive it anywhere..or...not. You buy it, it is yours. The fun and the not so fun if that happens. You pay for it and it explodes into a ball of flame and shrapnel at the end of the driveway? My responsibility ends at calling 911.ASK QUESTIONS! I will answer them as best as I can. I don't read minds so can't tell what part you might think is important to know about.I have a buy it now price which I think is plenty fair based on what I see out there. That price includes FREE SHIPPING the lower 48 states. Whoa! pretty cool, huh? I'm done work on 15 May and can load this up and bring it to you after that. However, it has to be paid for in full before a wheel rolls. Yes, I can pick people up at airports and get you to a DMV office etc if needed. A bidder who gets this for under the BIN price can contact me for shipping cost to their location but, for all this stuff, it is best to check BEFORE bidding.
And, as always, VW vans attract new age/no age and underage people. Make sure you have your finances in place before bidding. If you are using the Bank of Mom, make sure your room is clean and check with her 1st. Sell your stash BEFORE bidding as I really only accept cash 'Merican or Paypal I have all the love bead and tie-dye I can use. Don't need to trade as you should see this place! Moe stuff? no way!
The van will be at Everybus in NC this weekend if you want to come by and check it out.
