Thank You to the Rutan family for making this Historic car available in 2016 so we could return it to its place at hill climbs or track. This was Charlie Rutan's car, 1999 Mt. Washington class winner and 13th overall. Members of the family before its retirement also ran in 2002 CART autocross with 1st and 2nd in class A-Modified and FTD. Obtained by a extremely well trained Porsche Tech. in Ct. from the Rutan family, a on and off 3 year project to update and freshen this old bruiser has been completed. Please research the Rutans and VW hill climbs etc. for all you need to know as they where highly competitive and there ingenious designs used for this build dates back to there idea of winning and 1950-60's hand machining and design.The Engine: With the car package we used the highly modified case previously used. Machine work and case half support incredible. 92X86 bore/stroke, 2287 cc. Pauter steel rods, CB crank type 4, new cb light lifters,1.4 rockers, GB 311 cam, new valves, titanium retainers etc. 11.5.1 comp. New autocraft sump pump (Dry sump engine) All new oil lines and fittings and oil cooler with electric fan. New MSD with ignition control, New MSD Distributor . Clean + Flow injectors, new Bosch 044 fuel pump, new fittings, pipe and hose and fuel cell tank. New 1-5/8 ceramic exhaust, custom designed. Fuel injection, runs strong.Transmission: Gene Berg custom 5 speed with LSD and manual lever reverse lever and cable. Tower style shifter, beautifully designed. New clutch and pressure plate (Light/Race) disc.Chassis overall: New master cylinder, new rear CNC calipers rear, VW front, and all plumbing hard lines are correctly mounted. The rear suspension and pick ups are low and both trailing arms are cable Tethered. We added a better door latching system, new adjustable aluminum seat and new belts. The seat structure has been brought up to better safety standards as the cage has been added as well. Fuel delivery switching with ignition and back up power installed. The fabrication of remote oil cooler and ducting nicely done and everywhere you look you see the countless hours to fix and improve, but keep the car as it was once proudly campaigned.Included: 3 sets of wheels (5 lug rear, 4 lug front) 1600 cc case stock, New CB crank in box, several boxes of springs and parts, Berg camshaft, see picture. Huge 1" thick folder with records, receipts and hand written notes from Rutan's. It will need new tires on these 13" wheels for racing or mount something bigger and take out to the dessert. You will have the most unique, classic, historic, VW climber or track car anywhere. Car located in Ct.
