1960 Volkswagen Caravelle Camper
The Good: starts, runs, drives, steers and stops <> +-400 miles on a professionally rebuilt & installed -1974 dual port 1600cc engine; currently has original 36h carburetor and air cleaner <> 12v conversion w/alternator --[by a VW curmudgeon ] <> complete rework of brakes, Valvoline synthetic brake fluid installed <>variable speed wipers <> new tires 2018 <> glass good <> many parts replaced with NOS and good used <> aftermarket door seals <> new upholstery and padding front bench seat <> body work: complete sand-down & dent repair ---- some new body panels -- primed, painted and clear coated in 2000 <> Two separate keys for ignition and door locks. <> OE key for engine lid/gas door.
The Bad: body has some bondo and one area cracking --- some scrapes & dings --- clear coat on roof is peeling --- seam failing on replacement rocker panel [drivers side] --- no interior restoration done yet --- tint on side windows is bubbling --- reserve section of fuel tank disabled --- has started popping out of reverse occasionally (unknown miles on transaxle) ---
The Ugly: rust-through to floor at jack pockets; areas of rust bubbling on body- see pics -
The Missing: front interior cardboard kick panel; cargo doors interior finish panels: rear hatch interior upper finish panel: bench seat over water tank: fold out small table on side of ice box; possibly other small finish items. and the hand pump faucet for the water.(still searching for that)
Title in hand and in my name since 1978 when I bought this bus and drove it all over the western US in the 80's. We've moved several times since the new engine and I just never got around to finishing the interior and driving BetterBlue again. This vehicle is sold as is, where is. I have done my best to describe and show in photographs the condition. As such, there is no offer of warranty in any form for any aspect of the vehicle. Purchaser is advised to arrange for transport of vehicle rather than driving it long distance, it has not been on the road enough in the last several years to know it's road worthiness for a long drive.
