Description

I bought this 1990 VW Vanagon Carat new in 1991 in Long Beach, California and it never saw snow or ice which means "0" rust. It was the last year they were available in the USA. I have kept good care of it through the years, garaged 80% of the time and when it needed maintenance, it got it. Everything is original, the paint, carpets, seats, curtains, etc. (see photos). It comes with alloy wheels, tinted windows, side panels, CD player, rubber floor mats, power locking system with security alarm and 2 key fobs. All rubber is in perfect condition. As you can see from the photos it is in great shape, clean as a whistle inside and out. Everything works great, except the pop-up table needs adjustment to open correctly. Two minor fender benders, rear bumper was bumped and caused two small dents (see photos). The other was on the passenger side, while going around a tight corner the gray door panel got hooked and was replaced. This Vanagon Carat is up for sale with an accident-free Carfax report, factory literature, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Mileage is 181,390

The Carat is the high end of Vanagons and is a capable and desirable Van and Camper. The very comfortable queen-size bed, 73"x 60", all around curtains, fold away table, a 12" fluorescent light and the removable rear-facing seats make for a great camper with tons of storage! When the bed is opened and the rear-facing seats are removed you have 63"x37"of open floor space with more storage under the back seat.

I bought the Carat instead of the westfalia because their bed is too small and all the cabinetry and the pop-up top makes the westies have a high center of gravity and extra weight, and many folks don’t or won’t cook inside anyway and the frig is temperamental… so the Carat is the way to go. It's also great for carrying a lot of cargo, like4' x 8' sheets of plywood or even driving seven passengers and their luggage to the airport!
