1986 VW Volkswagen Vanagon T3 Doka Double Cab Crew Cab Diesel Pickup Truck 2WD
Description
Lifted 1986 6 passenger 2WD Doka with original 1.6 JX turbo diesel and 4 speed. Currently titled, registered and regularly driven in Arizona. Odometer shows 7K which means it has rolled over at least once.
I bought this about a year and a half ago from a guy in Georgia who imported it four or five years before that. Runs, drives and stops fine. Glass-out paintjob was done a few years back by previous owner and it’s not bad for a DIY job but it does show some signs of wear around gate hinges and belly door hinges. A few small chips here and there which can be seen in pics and one small door ding on passenger door. Previous owner also did the bed and inside of gates in black textured paint (looks decent). Bed gates are straight and not bowed. Bed floor and inner bed area in general shows signs of previous use: some chips, waves and dings. Belly area under bed is clean and rust-free.
Here’s what I’ve done since I've owned it:
Injection pump and injectors rebuilt by Giles Performance
GoWesty zero lift springs (provided about 1.75” lift) with front ball joint spacers
215-75 R15 Kuhmos
Bilstein shocks all around
Tristar-style rear sliding windows (will include original stationary glass)
Glow plugs and glow plug relay
Hard start relay
Headlight relays
Headlight adjuster mod
Bosch coolant temp gauge (factory gauge in cluster does not work)
Backup camera
Timing belt, tensioner and v belt
Radiator fan switch
Brake light switch
Kilmat sound deadener/insulation on ceiling
Horn, horn button and contact ring
Known issues:
No headliner, but I do have the bows. PO’s custom rear interior panels do not match front
Two visible rust spots: driver’s B pillar drain and some bubbling by driver’s rear wheel (see pictures)
Filler neck drips if 100% full on fuel (GoWesty sells a kit to repair this)
Leaks and burns some oil
This thing also has some cool touches like a Carat front bumper, Westfalia euro hitch and heavy duty truck mirrors. Factory bulkhead/cab partition is still there.
Because the engine is original, for full asking price I will also include a 1.9L AHU TDI that's currently on an engine stand. Was running when pulled but it’s been on a stand for two years. It's not a direct swap, but it's one of the easier swaps that you can do on these Vanagons and it's considerably more powerful than the stock 1.6TD.
