1980 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper
I purchased this vehicle in 1990. I think I’m the 3d owner.
I’ve been a VW enthusiast since the ‘60’s. I’ve used it as a 3 season camper, and garaged it in winter. It has not been a daily driver. My typical use is 4000-5000 miles per year, on camping trips. It has been all over the west and to Baja twice. It was in very good shape when I got it and still is. The original carpets have always had another carpet over them! It is mostly original. It has had good maintenance, as needed. About 160K on the body.
1991- new to it later transmission, which still works fine. Odo quit at 89K.
Winter of 2006-07—it was getting slow and starting to use oil, so the engine was rebuilt with the best German parts I could get. Oversize oil pump and extractor exhaust added. The rebuild has around 40K miles on it, still runs great. Has about 160K on the whole vehicle.
Since the engine was out that winter, the body went in the shop, the rock chips were sanded out, metal prepped and touched up. The paint is good, it is very presentable for a 36 yer old VW. It has an original patina. Western car: very solid, not a rust bucket.
Camper interior is in good shape. The white contact paper on the interior walls has been removed. The rear seat has been reupholstered with nice automotive fabric.
The propane fridge is hard to start, but works. Stove is fine. Pop top works well, and the tent is OK. Roof rack included, I’ve used it for hauling sea kayaks. Extra interior light for reading, and a CD player in the dash. My 1990 CB radio is still installed and still works. Tires are load range C, and the rears are traction tires about 3 years old. ( no studs).
Needs a good home. Bus located in eastern Idaho. Terms: $500 deposit within 5 days; sale completed within 14 days. Cash due on pick up. Nearest airport: Jackson Hole, WY. Go visit Grand Teton and Yellowstone before you go home!
(For retirement, I purchased a Sprinter van and converted it to my new camper. )
