For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 1978 Volkswagen Beetle. Dubbed the Super Beetle the type 1303 saw many modern upgrades that set the last generation of beetle apart from its predecessors in handling and technology. Replacing the bulky and outdated torsion bar suspension setup VW decided to integrate the MacPherson strut style independent front suspension beam. This made the turning radius sharper and also made the vehicle handle safer in the event of a blowout. Upgrades to the engine included the addition of the Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system which was a redesign of the D-Jetronic system found in Type 3's and Porsche 914's. This newer fuel injection system was a lot less temperamental than the D-Jet systems but still provided plucky acceleration while adhering to an ever tightening emissions protocol. The effect the beetle has had on the world is undeniable, just about everyone has a story of either themselves or someone they know that used to own one or still does. The Beetle is still seen today cruising around town or competing quite well in the baja 1000. Our fine example is a Porsche red Karman convertible. This fun little bug has been lovingly taken care of by its current owner with up to date maintenance records and very few modifications. The 1600cc dual port engine fires up with ease and the transmission shifts like butter through all the gears. This bug is the perfect vehicle for those beach days or cool nights, just drop the top and enjoy the drive. With a vehicle that has been in production in one way or another from 1938-2003 with very little in design changes the beetle is a cool collectible vehicle whose cost of maintenance and upkeep make it a classic worth keeping.
