Up for auction/sale: 1966 Volvo P1800S
History:Purchasedfrom the Chicago Illinois area 15 years ago (2002) in non-running fair shape. In 2003the original(rusted, dented, missing) 1966 bumpers wereremoved and replaced with a set ofearlymodel year more sportier lookingbull horn style bumpers, the single door mirror was removed and thefender mounted bullet style was added, the fender mounted antenna was removedand a interior rear window antenna was added, the dual SU carbs and intake wereremoved and replaced with a single Holley 2 barrel carbandlastly thetrue spoke rims were added. Repainted in 2004.Since than Iused it asa part time summertime daily driver/ take it to cruise nights vehicle. But... times change and I have not really drivenit for the past coupleyears :-( so its time to go. Still runs good, the paint still shines and it looksgood (not perfect)with no visible rust. Thereis rustissues on the frame rails that were there when I purchased the vehicle andI have been monitoring them over the years. They will require some metal patchwork and probably should be addressed. Review the ad and the images and send me your questions and I will answer as best as I can and add more photos as requested, you are also welcome to come check it out in person but I do not have insurance or plates on it. Thisis a very cool looking car! it will not win at any shows but it does commandmore attention and will gathermore crowds around it than the normal classics.
Thanks
Bill
Detail:
Powertrain: Engine, transmission, overdrive, rear end, clutchall work as they should, Could use an exhaust pipe and muffler.
Chassis: Steering is good, front shocks replaced in 2007, rear shocks replaced with"air shocks" 2007, true spoke rims are in good shape with very minor rust, tires have lotsof tread but show signs of age (cracking),New front and rear brake shoes andwheel cylinders and master cylinderin 2014, brake booster has been bypassed (needs rebuild). The frame rails have rust out areas in front of the front suspension area, see the last 3 images. The first two are of the drivers side, 1 picture from inside the hood and the other from underneath. The last picture isof the passenger side underneath.I know this is a concern and we all have opinions but personally I do not see the rust outsas a big job to fix - a day or so of patching/welding. I just don't have the time.
Interior: Seats are in good shape with minor imperfection, carpet has wear spots and faded in areas, speedometer and tach work but the lens's have cracks, horn button and steering wheel have cracks, fuel gageworks but sticks sometimes, clock does not work, radio and amplifier work but sometimes requires figiting of the contacts, dash has cracks and been patched in over the gauge area - this could be done better, added a very nice custom console as you can see in the pictures that matches the interior extremely well and looks like original equipment.
Body Structure: It is all there
Body Closures: Doors (locks) hood and deck lid all work as they should
Exterior: Repainted 2004, scratches, chips, touch-up, roof has tiny ripples under the paint
Electrical: Pretty much all the electrical works but sometimes the contacts don't contact as well as they should
