This listing is for a classic 1988 Volvo 240 DL. If you know anything about Volvo, you'll know this to be the model that made Volvo famous for engines and cars that would routinely go over 500K miles. This is a third car for us in Florida and I am moving back to Michigan for work. As much as I would love to keep this tank, they aren't the best in the snow and trailering it up north to store is not a great option - so here she is. I have had numerous cars over the years but this is by far the most reliable running vehicle ever and the cheapest to work on. The 4 cylinder red block is virtually maintenance free, and in the past 2 years I have done A LOT of the work to keep her rolling. I have receipts that will come with the car for $3935.00 of work done in the past 2 years. I just had a fresh timing belt put in so you're good for another 100K. Here is a summary of the work done:

The interior is fantastic - this is a 29 year old car and the interior has no rips, tears or even fading. The headliner is actually a vinyl/plastic so it never sags (smartest thing ever). The engine starts every time, runs and shifts smoothly and has plenty of power.
The temperature gauge reads exactly 210 (normal operating temp) every time, no matter what. I have driven this car back and forth from Savannah to Ft. Lauderdale many times and it runs perfectly on the highway. The AC was just repaired and charged and works great. All controls work on the car. Part of the reason they are so reliable is that they are pretty basic - manual windows, few optional items, etc. Power locks work as well. The exterior is pretty good for its age - hardly any surface rust at all. The top and trunk have a bit of sun fade, though the hood is in very good shape without any - great candidate for a paint job. The large trunk is clean and has a full spare in it. As the original 14" tires are harder to find and the steel rims leak, I changed over to 15" aluminum wheels and tires. Being a music guy, I finally pulled the original system and had a new CD player with Aux input, speakers, sub and amp installed. Awesome sound.
The only item that does not work is the speedometer / odometer. It was working when I bought the car several years ago, but cut out this past spring at 178,000. This apparently is one of the rare plastic gear parts on the car and they routinely fail around 150K to 200K. I have a new speedo cable for it but was never really bothered by it in town so held off. On the highway my GPS unit shows the speed :)
Overall, this is a great car, famously reliable and safe and really needs nothing for quite some time. Its cheap to run and cheap to insure. Feel free to ask any questions or request more photos- you are welcome to come see and drive the car if you are local to Pompano Beach. The car has a clear title and I have the Carfax report - I will include 3 keys, the Carfax, all work receipts and the manual.
