Description

Selling this extra vehicle because our youngest is in college now. You won’t find many of these.1979 Volvo 242 Flat Hood Automatic. Runs well overall.

Engine is solid, strong and does not use much oil at all, but takes awhile to warm up. It does have an oil leak but not particularly much.Has the 242 feature package for this year...namely the flat hood set up. It has the rigid headliner, which is white and in very good condition...no rips or sagging. Strong aluminum bumper with all the black trim, including the black rubber bumper gap molding.

Interior is very clean in every way, including the recently shampooed brown carpeting. Carpet was removed last Fall and shampooed, dried, then reinstalled. It is a clean interior car. Recaro seats show some wear, but are comfortable for zipping around or a longer trip. Dash has some cracks, but is not deteriorating or flaking. Dash mat on top makes it look sharp. Fold down center armrest makes driving very comfortable. Has a Sony receiver with MP3 hook up, and decent three way Pioneer speakers on the rear hat shelf. We're not big time car stereo people, so I could guarantee how great the sound is.

13,000 miles ago, in July of 2014, the engine had the timing belt, seal and gasket replaced. Over Christmas I spent some significant $ to replace the original automatic transmission, which had developed issues, with a similar vintage automatic, and one that came from a lower mileage car. The transmission was found in Colorado, and brought here. A local mechanic whom I trust did the installation.

A new alternator was installed last month due to the indicator light sometimes appearing on, so now the system charges like it should. At the same time last month I also installed the largest permissible battery for the car, it is a new Interstate formore cranking power.

All the parts on this car are OEM. Came from a Volvo enthusiast when this enthusiast (me) purchased it. What is really unique is that the rear seat is purple...it is a rarity, and in really good condition. The color combination in this car is very impressive, and matches very well. Black and brown being the predominate colors. No one ever smoked in the car. OEM Volvo floor trays also.

Rims are the standard factory 14 inch steel with tires that are pretty good and I would estimate about 40% more life on them. Rims are steel and are in very good condition, with very little corrosion. The 2 piece center caps and beauty rings are original, and are old school cool. (see below for an option I am offering with this car for an extra charge on top of auction ending amount)...

Recently replaced tail lights. They are the vintage OEM Bosch and look great.

Instrument cluster and gauges work, except for sometimes the fuel gauge. For that reason I am including a complete replacement instrument cluster for replacement or cannabalizing.Heater fan motor works well...each position on the blower works.

Engine bay is clean, as seen in pictures. Windshield is not broken or cracked, no chips.

Clean rocker panels. See pictures...you'll see no rust on them! And the door jambs and door skin seams are essentially eat-off-of clean. Trunk spare tire and storage cavities are fairly clean as well--not perfect, but absolutely no rust-throughs.

Car isn't perfect, but it's unusually clean. And the auction price is set to indicate that. Here's some details you would need to know before committing. Car has light corrosion spots in several significant areas, and a few very small dings. There are several small areas of paint peeling, but not bad at all. The paint is a not sun-baked. Could polish up well. It would be a perfect car to work on over weekends as a summer driver. As with older vehicles, it's probably a good thing to know things about old cars or have a friend whose a good mechanic.

Note: For an extra $450 I have a beautiful set of 15 inch Virgo rims with all original center caps and nearly new tires that have at least 80% life left...I will sell to you if you win auction. Last two pictures are the Virgos and tires. Tire brand is OHTSU, and the model is FP0612, the size is 215 60/R15 94H, and they all match as they were purchased at the same time and are balanced. The Rims have not been repainted. They are original which allows the original alloy to show it's coolness.

There are a number of transportation companies I’ve heard come through here headed to all places in the U.S. Lower price is set to encourage bidders to not overlook this car, even though it's sort of out-of-the-way.

Check my feedback and bid/buy with confidence. I’ve been on eBay for 19 years and have 100% feedback. If you want more pictures and or the sound of the engine on short video, find a way to get me your cell/text number.
