Description

Here for your consideration is a 1984 Volvo 240 GL Wagon, fondly known as the "Flying Fortress". The original owner had this car all the way until 2016 and I bought it from the second owner January of 2018. This car is in very good shape and was recently treated to extensive work throughout to make it a comfortable, reliable, and stylish daily driver or road-trip machine. It is currently located in Sonora, CA.
Listed below is thorough analysis of the car. If I missed anything or you would like more details/pictures, feel free to contact me.
Mechanical:Engine recently received a full tune-up that included an oil and filter change, the replacement of all ignition components, repair of the cold-starting system, installation of a new rear main seal and oil pan gasket, new overdrive solenoid, and installation of a new alternator and battery. The car also has a full set of brand new (1000 miles) Michelin tires. The spare tire is original and should probably be replaced. I was told by the previous owner that a new torque converter and catalytic converter were installed but I do not have a receipt to document them.
Body:The body is in excellent condition having just been given a full respray. It was repainted because the clear coat on the tops of the front fenders and on the roof was peeling. It was done in the original silver though it may be slightly lighter and the black trim that was originally satin was done in gloss. The respray is mid-range quality with a small patch of orange peel on the front cowl, a small line of silver over-spray on the black trim and a few masking tape blemishes but, otherwise, the car looks very sharp and will remain so if properly taken care of. There is no rust or accident damage on this car.
Interior:The interior is in fair condition. Being a Grand Lux model, it has leather seats, velour-trimmed door panels, electric windows, automatic door locks, AM/FM radio with cassette player, and tachometer. The front seats show surface wear and a few rips but they are still very comfortable and supportive. The back seat is in excellent condition with only a small stain in the seat crease. The carpet throughout the car is OK but does have some obvious sun fading however, this car has a full set of the original and very handy rubber floor mats front and back. Almost all the electrical works as new including the windows, door locks, radio/cassette player, heater, etc. Some of the faults include an inaccurate temperature gauge, the air conditioning needing to be converted to R-410A coolant, the clock is slow, the overdrive light is wired backwards, and probably one or two other small issues.
The car still has its original sale literature (dealership folder, brochure, owner's manual, and 100,000 mile maintenance record book), the most valuable being the 100,000 mile maintenance-record book which shows each maintenance service performed on the car for its first 100,000 miles. By the looks of it, the original owner was very meticulous about maintenance and always had it serviced when it was due. Also worth noting is that it was always serviced at "Earth In Upheaval" Auto Repair Shop up until about 200,000 miles (2016) which was a Volvo dealership-approved mechanic. Other than the maintenance-record book, the only service records I have are from the work that I had done on the car. I did some of the work myself but most of it was performed by Sonora Import Service (local Bosch expert and Volvo guru).

This is a great car and I hate to see it go but I just bought a Volvo 122S Wagon that is more my taste. This 240 is extremely solid, reliable, comfortable, utilitarian, economical, and classy. If you would like to come see it and test drive it, I'd be more than happy to arrange that. It passed California SMOG in January 2018 and I will have it tested again once a buyer commits to purchasing it.
