Description

The Duett was made from 1944 through 1968 with a total number produced of just over 59k. 1961 was the only year in which they made windows at the back seat that roll down, and they only made them for export to the USA.
Restoration started July of 2010. California car. Nearly everything rebuilt or replaced from the ground up. New wheel cylinders, shoes, drums turned. New brake line rubber end hoses. New master cylinder with remote reservoir on the firewall, (they used to make them with the only reservoir being on the cylinder mounted down on the frame! It was very difficult to check!). New oil seals all wheels. New oil seals at trans output shaft & differential input shaft. New shocks all around. Also rear airbags.
All body rubber new including all window gaskets and window channels, nearly all suspension rubber. Car taken down to metal, only 2 VERY small spots of bondo found. Originally a B16(1.6L) 4 cylinder. Purchased a '73 Volvo 145 and used that B20(2.0L) engine. Had a valve job done on the head. New rear main seal and gaskets. Flywheel friction plate surface machined before new clutch/pressure plate/throwout bearing went in. Mallory electronic distributor. Weber downdraft 2 barrel progressive carb. The summer of 2015 with
approx. 2400 miles on the car, I pulled the engine out and took it to a local engine shop and had it completely rebuilt. Current miles approx. 8,000.While I had the engine out I painted the engine compartment black with POR15,(white was too hard to keep clean and not as tough as POR15).
Installed a 6 blade fan and an electric “pusher” fan on the front of the radiator.Complete new wiring harness and fuse box, contemporary "easy wire" with modern style fuses and plenty of circuits for expansion. New tail/turn signal assemblies and front turn signal assemblies. 3rd upper brake light added, 4 way flashers added. Also added back up lights which they didn't have in '61. Added retractable seat belts. New windshield.
New floor pans installed & painted w/POR15 & "FAT MAT"ted. Also FatMatted the side walls, doors, & roof. New carpet, & Headliner. Seats, sunvisors, armrests all reupholstered. New factory style dash pad. I came up with a NOS speedo assembly, but at 250 miles the odometer quit working? Nice sound system usb, i-pod ready. 2018 installed a new front bumper, new grill surround, and new headlight trim rings.
All receipts total over $28,k.Insurance co. values it at $31k
I have many pictures from beginning to end of the project. This is an auction so please don’t send messages asking how much I will take for the car.I reserve the right to sell outside of this auction. No warranties expressed or implied.I would do what I could to help you arrange shipping, all at your cost.Pick up for free.
