Completely restored 1984 Volvo 244
Description
Up for sale is a 1984 Volvo 244 DL, this car came to our shop via one of our customers. The car had been in storage for many years, the customer didn't have the budget to get her back to road worthy condition. We acquired the 84 and proceeded to make her road worthy once again.
The fuel tank was in very poor condition, so that was our starting point. We installed a new gas tank, sending unit and in tank filter with filter sock. We then flushed all the fuel lines, fuel rail and injectors and replaced the fuel filter. We then replaced the secondary ignition components, air filter and performed an oil and filter change. With phase one done she sprang to life with the help of a new interstate battery.
Phase two would be to deal with why it left the road in the first place. The idle speed motor had a broken connector, so it was removed, cleaned and wire connector repaired. The air mass sensor was causing running issues (most likely the reason it was parked) we replaced it with a re-manufactured unit. Cleaned and adjusted the throttle plate and replaced the PCV flame trap. So off to phase three...
We replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system. The timing belt, tensioner bearing, front engine seals were replaced, she got new auxiliary drive belts as well. The water pump was removed, inspected and new seals installed. The rear exhaust mufflers and pipes were replaced.
Phase four was to replace the brake system, a complete set of brake flex hoses, four re-manufactured brake calipers. Along with new brake pads, rotors and parking brake shoes. We then replaced the master cylinder and completely flushed the brake hydraulic lines. After a road test it was determined that the previous owner had a pinion seal replaced incorrectly, so we installed a donor differential assembly including two new rear shocks and new radius rod bushings.
Since she revived so well we treated her to some ancillary components. New door pockets, floor mats, glove box latch, wiper blades, shift rod bushings. Hub caps, beauty rings, four new 195/70R14 General Altimax tires and an Alignment. Last but not least we serviced the A/C and converted it to 134.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The restoration took about 6 months start to finish, then the car was driven extensively by myself (a 240 enthusiast) to assure everything is working properly. At some point the title issued for the car stated the mileage was 120,005, we do not believe this is accurate do to the condition of the interior and exterior of the car.
