In a moment of too many cocktails and nostalgia, in sept 2015 I bought not one, but two volvos, a 1971 1800 and a 1973 1800 es. I owned several of these in my 20's andi'm now in my 60's. I don't know if I thought they would make me look like 20 again, but they didn't!! I absolutely love these cars and their beautiful lines but it was a sillypurchase. Hence, I am selling both of them at no reserve because i do not want to not be able to park in my garage for another winter.
This auction is for the coupe. The 1800 coupe was made famous in the tv series The Saint with Roger Moore. This car had been owned by the same person since it was new.They flew to Sweden, picked it up at the factory, drove it to the West coast of Europe and shipped it to California, where it stayed until I bought it last September.
The car is very solid and drives great, just like I remember from decades ago. There are a few little spots where they had put touch up paint on each side (see photos) but Icannot see any evidence of rust, even around the headlights. The dash has cracks in it which unfortunately is common for these. The car has 231,000 on the odometer. It is a4 speed with overdrive and does not have air conditioning.
Ultimately, if I kept it I might repaint it just because of the few touch up spots but i could certainly live with them for now. The rest of the car looks good. I would also putsome cushioning under the seats to give them more firmness.
Again, this is a no reserve auction. I paid $15,000 for this car last year. I paid too much and I know I will lose money. It has been garaged since it was delivered and neverdriven in the winter or in the rain. In fact I think I have only put 10 miles on it! Happy bidding.
