Overview:

Here is an absolutely stunning 1960 Willy's Surrey Gala Jeep that looks better then new inside and out. This Willy's received a complete body off restoration of an original black plate California jeep. There was no expense spared in the restoration of this Jeep using only NOS parts where possible. The restoration was photo documented in an album that goes with the car. It is believed to have only 29K original miles on it and only 52 miles currently on the restoration. It doesn't get any better then this. If you want the best, here it is!

A little history on the Willy's Surry Gala Jeep. In fall of 1959, the Jeep Surrey was introduced. It used the body style of the older CJ-3A, along with the L-134 engine. It was only available in 2WD and came with a column shift Borg-Warner T-96 manual transmission. The primary target market was resort hotels and vacation centers. It also served as a low-cost rental vehicle for their guests. The Surrey came with a standard striped fabric top, as well as a matching fabric cover for what was advertised as a "Continental tire mount."

Shortly after Henry Kaiser bought Willys-Overland he retired to Hawaii where he owned several businesses including Hawaiian Village Hotel that he later sold to Conrad Hilton and a car rental agency. The car rental agency offered the Surrey Jeeps as a cheap runabout vehicle for resorts and a delivery vehicle for small shops in Hawaii and the Caribbean as well.

Approximately 1,100 Gala/Surrey vehicles were manufactured. The Surrey Jeeps came in two-tone paint colors of Tropical Mist (pink)/Coral & Glacier White, Cerulean Blue/Glacier White and Jade Tint Green/Glacier White. The canvas tops were striped with a fringe around the edges.
