Whether you’re a big fan of gassers or if you just like cool cars, this one will make you smile. This 1941 Willys A/G replica is an absolute beast. This high quality professional build combines outstanding paint and a custom interior with a high power 496 and Richmond 4-speed, resulting in a car that has equal parts “show” and “go”.
“Skull Duggery” has only 1,400 miles since completion. It uses a body from Active Power (now American Gasser) with a modified chassis. The beautiful paint is complemented by gold flake calligraphy on the doors / b-pillars along with air brushing on the tilt front end. The underside of the car also exhibits the build quality with clean welds, tight lines, neat wiring, and more. The suicide doors have no external handles though there is a hidden release under the left rocker panel. The polished 15” wheels wear Mickey Thompson tires, with 26x7.5 Sportsmans in front and big 31x16.5 ET Streets in back.
The drivetrain consists of a wicked 496ci Chevy built for this car. It has an estimated 700hp and runs on pump gas with a 10:1 compression ratio. Highlights include Eagle rods, JE pistons, and Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads. There is also a Meziere high flow electric water pump, dual electric fans, and a full MSD ignition. Not to be missed is the rare Offenhauser dual quad intake topped by twin Demon 750cfm carburetors fed by a Holley electric fuel pump. The ceramic coated exhaust is true to the gasser theme, with cutout plates under the fenders and Flowmaster mufflers further back. Note this car is quite loud even with the header plates; take them off and you’ll be setting off car alarms.
Behind the engine is a Perfection clutch with a Howe hydraulic release bearing contained by a Lakewood scattershield. This is followed by a Richmond Super T10 4-speed transmission. The custom aluminum driveshaft spins the Currie 9” rear end which houses 31-spline axles and 5.29 gears! While that is a high ratio, it is made reasonable through a tall first gear and the big rear tires. The suspension uses ladder bars in back with adjustable coilovers, while the solid front axle has QA1 shocks along with a Borgeson steering box and Wilwood disc brakes. Note the extensive plating and polishing underneath the car.
The gorgeous interior continues the trend of quality workmanship. It is finished in two-tone leather and tweed with matching seats, door panels, dash, and headliner. There is also a center console with a switch compartment that keeps the dash layout very clean. Note this Willys is equipped with power windows, turn signals, high/low beams, and a parking brake. There is also a Pioneer stereo with remote plus a hidden Boss amplifier powering Kicker speakers. The trunk is fully finished as well and just as nice as the interior.
There is nothing like the sight and sound of a Willys gasser. And while many such cars are built primarily with racing in mind, this one goes a step further with beautiful fit and finish throughout. It is also a consistent show winner that has never seen the track. If you’re looking for something to really get your blood moving, this is it.
