Description
CAR IS LOCATED IN CHARLOTTE, NC. Please feel free to ask any questions, BUT, READ THE LISTING FIRST. It is extensive and detailed.
You are bidding on one awesome Alfa Romeo Spider from 1979 with ONLY 54,000 MILES!!!!!!!!. I am selling this for a close friend. I have overseen all repairs/upgrades since meeting him back in 2005. He has owned the car since 2001. It is currently tagged and insured....so mileage may go up as the beautiful fall weather has finally arrived here in NC. GORGEOUS COLOR COMBINATION!!!

He began a full mechanical restoration in 2012, as it was time to start attending to the typical Alfa mechanical issues. He was planning on completing the exterior restoration, but he had to move to another state and he does not have a garage to keep it in at his new home....so he is passing it along.
First, in May of 2012 the head was removed and a full valve job performed by THE ALFA IMPORT CENTER, which had moved here to Charlotte, NC. NEW WES INGRAM SPICA CAMS INSTALLED10.2 mm cam: 10.2 lift x 240 degrees @ .050 lift. No loss of low speed torque, excellent idle quality., EURO HEADER and an RML IGNITION SYSTEM were added, as well as sending the SPICA PUMP out for rebuilding and rebuilding the THERMOSTATIC ACTUATOR. RADIATOR was also cleaned/boiled out at this time. TOTAL COST $6223.11
Secondly, I performed, in March of 2013, a full rebuild/upgrade of the existing fuel system from SPICA pump back. An IN-TANK pump was added and the BOSCH ELECTRIC MAIN PUMP WAS REPLACED ALSO. The correct modification was done for the looping of return fuel line, which did not exist on the original SPICA setup at the original BOSCH pump. The FUEL SENDING UNIT was also replaced. ALL FUEL LINES REPLACED with correct WURTH METRIC braided type hose. TOTAL COST $699.43
Thirdly, in July of 2016, a NEW CLUTCH was installed by The IMPORT CLINIC here in Charlotte. TOTAL COST $1223.85
The body is amazing on this car with exception to a couple of things. There are a couple dings on the passenger rear fender, but nothing that I could even get to show up on camera. The only issue with the body is the outer rockers. They were not so great when my friend purchased it in 2001. Floors, jack points, spare well...all solid. SEE PHOTOS!!! There is some minor bubbling over the passenger rear wheel well and a few very small spots on the rear valance underneath near the exhaust and a couple of spots under the deck lid near the license plate. SEE PHOTOS IN LINK AT BOTTOM OF LISTING!!! The rest of the car is very clean, underneath, on top, inside, etc.... I know the rockers are a big deal...but car is priced accordingly....especially given all the mechanical work done in the past 3 years.
The engine runs great...I would say she could stand a little magician work on the SPICA to get it tuned perfect. With all due respect....the car ran great during testing without the air cleaners installed during the ALFA IMPORT CENTER WORK...but in my opinion it is a little off once air cleaners are installed. I'm not a SPICA expert by ANY means....but in the right hands...this would be an easy adjustment.
The transmission of course shifts great. No issues, no 2nd gear crunch, syncros in good condition.
The interior is original...but shows very well. Seats do have some splits. Dash does have a small crack that can be seen in the driving video.
ALL ELECTRICAL working. The only electrical issue is the fuse for the Alternator Indicator light keeps blowing. I am not sure what this could be...but it does not affect the performance of the car at all. It does make the gauges go in and out at times.....but mostly they stay on. I'm no electrical expert, but it has to be something simple....as everything else works great.
The top works great, but does have a couple of tears that could be patched easily. SEE PHOTOS.
The tires are PIRELLI P400 185/70-14. They are a little dry, but perform well. They have been installed since 5-23-2012 with no issues.
The only things not installed at the current time are windshield wipers (this model has a special fitting that has to be ordered for this particular size wiper) There are two sets of wipers, just need the correct mounting fitting. The car is never driven in the rain, or stored outside, so this was never a big priority. The sun visors are also not installed, but are present. SEE PHOTOS.
