1992 BMW 525i (e34) 5 Speed Manual Transmission - Silver, With Black Interior.
Description
Very Good Running e34 525i, With Stick Shift.
I have always given the car what it has needed mechanically, and I am a 16 year customer at my BMW specialist, here in Monterey, Ca. (I've had a few minor things done at other shops, just for convenience)
I have all, or most service records since I bought the car from prior owner, and he turned over many service records to me upon sale. Those records are also present. He owned it for 8 years, and I have had it for about 5 years.
He bought it from a mechanic, and I'm pretty sure he said the guy was a BMW specialist. The BMW (independent) service center that did the alternator verified that the mechanic had indeed owned the car, and I believe I remember them saying that he was working there when he owned it. Anyway, the guy I bought it from was a "9 to 5" sort of person, who was pretty darn careful about maintaining the car. He was in his early 50's, and was a family man. I got a pretty good idea that he never abused the car, that was obvious. I know that he drove highway miles, to and from work.
The car drove like a champ, so I had a moderate pre-purchase inspection done, and it came out real good. It needed front brakes, which I had done that week.
Some more of the work I have had done since I have owned:
Thermostat
Battery (as preventive maintenance)
Bosch alternator and belt (The car's original alternator was just starting to go when I purchased the car)
Radiator, and exp tank
Auxiliary coolant pump
Twisted seat back repaired (Driver's seat, common to these cars)
6 Coil packs installed (4 lightly used 2 new)
Plugs
O2 sensor
Front brakes, including rotors.
Coolant temp sensor (to gauge)
Pretty certain I did the rear brakes at some point as well, but if they were again in need of attention, my mechanic would have mentioned it.
Recent cat (Magnaflow, professionally installed)
My driving has been mostly highway. For a year I drove all highway to and from work, 20 miles each way.
After that I was driving mostly highway, 6 to 10 miles to work. Some town driving, of course too.
Mileage is great, I have seen it get up to 28mpg on the highway, while monitoring the on board computer after it starts averaging out the mileage on a long drive. I wouldn't be surprised if it does even better than that. The computer has two MPG selections, which is really handy for monitoring both town and highway driving. No promises on what your mileage will be, but the combination of the Dinan performance chip and the manual transmission really help, I'll just put it that way.
Town driving I'm pretty sure it gets around 17 or 18, and I think you can probably rely on 26 hi-way.
This car gets used four to six times a week. I have access to another vehicle and I don't always drive it.
The Air Conditioning worked really well, but it lost it's charge last summer.
I have no reason to believe that it shouldn't hold a charge. It blew very cold for 4 years.
Heat, defrost, vents, all seem to work properly. (Even the little hot/cool selector wheel in the center of the two middle vents seems to work fine)
Lighter works, and looks like it has not been used more than once or twice, if at all.
AM/FM JVC Stereo CD, working well. (CD CDR CDRW mp3, etc) Original BMW radio is present, but I do not advise installing it, as something was wrong with it. If you would like to bring the dash back to original, I would suggest finding a BMW radio online.
The car has sport springs (I am pretty sure they are H&R and they only lower the car by 1.3" in the front and .75" in the rear) That is the perfect height for this vehicle, in my opinion.
Car is also equipped with Bilstein Sport Shocks.
Also has genuine Dinan performance chip. Original stock chip is present, in glove box, along with the Dinan literature.
This car handles incredibly well, and has great acceleration.
All springs and shocks are good, no sagging, no 'soft fenders'
Current California Emissions SMOG certificate in hand, excellent numbers, see photo.
Clutch feels good.. I won't say it feels "new" but it feels good. Not sure when last replaced. Tool kit is complete. There may be one or two little items missing, but the tools are there, as is one flare, and some other nick-nacks.
Needs two tires now, and fairly soon it will need two more.
Fuel door came off, but it is present.
Small part of front grill broke off, piece can be glued, it is in trunk.
Probably needs left, rear window regulator. The window 'kind-of' works, but it makes noise, so I don't use it.
All other widows ok.
Instrument cluster works well, but recently lost small part of the illumination (Far right, not a big deal)
Seats are very good, with one in-conspicuous tear on a seam of the driver seat. The rear seat backrest as the very beginnings of some seam separation, but it's not very noticeable. Carpet is in good shape. Quite certain the car has never been smoked in, nor has it had pets in it on a regular basis. (The car smells like a BMW, not like a pet and not like damp weather)
Missing one trim piece on pass door handle, and one trim piece from driver side entry area, along running board and carpet. (Pretty sure I have that piece in the trunk)
I have the original console wood grain piece that surrounds shifter. I removed it because I like the way it looks without it.
If you want to arrange for someone to look it over, pre-sale, I will try to work with you on that, send me a message via ebay messages.
Selling because I have some medical bills coming up, and also because I'm wanting to drive an automatic for a while.
