You are buying a 1985 BMW 524TD 4-Door SedanFinishedin Alpine White with a Medium Blue Vinyl Interior and Blue Carpets.
In June 1983, theBMW 524td was presented in Europe (1985 in the US).BMW had faced up to the challenge ofconstructing a diesel enginewhich was to unite the benefits of the diesel principlewithcharacteristic BMW qualities such as dynamic performance and running smoothness. Thus theBMW turbo diesel engine was created on the basis of the existing in-line 6-cylinder enginesbetween 2 and 2.7 liters capacity. With turbo charging and large flow cross sections in theintake and outlet valves of the 2.4-liter engine;a high output of 115 horsepower was enabled. The further developed swirl chamber combustion process also offered excellent conditions forlow fuel consumption and combustion noise.According to DIN norms, BMW achieved a fuel consumption of just 33.1 mpg with this modernturbo diesel. With a top speed of 112 mph and an acceleration of 13.5 seconds from 0 - 62 mph, driving performance figures were realized which set new standards in dynamic performancefor diesel automobiles.
I have owned the car for over 6 years, and have maintained and repaired it as a daily driver. It runs very smoothly and powerfully, and nearly all power accessories work as expected, including the power windows, power locks, the power seats except for the headrests, antenna, and cold air conditioning.Over the last few years the timing belt, water pump, vacuum pump, and glow plugshave been replaced, and the valves adjusted. The transmission was rebuilt by Aamco in 2010 shortly before I purchased the car.The driver's seat has been professionally re-padded for driving comfort. It has a recent Pioneer CD/AM/FM stereo, dash mat, and Lloyds carpeted floor mats.and 4 new speakers installed in the original locations. All worn front suspension parts have been replaced for asmooth solid ride.Oil and filter have been changed quarterly so oil runs clean. The injector pump has begun to leak, but does not affect performance. The cost to repair it is about $1000-depending on mechanic's labor, and the cost to rebuildthe pump at a diesel shop.Because I now have one too many vehicles, and now is the time to pass this ultra Rare car on to a fellow enthusiast. The car is absolutely rust-free, complete, and original, but has asalvage title.I don't know what the damage to the carwas which caused it to besalvaged.I have spent a lot of time and money bringing the car up to its current standard, and repairing the injector pump is a very routine repair.I only found one currently for sale in the US- on Hemmings;a Euro import with a Manual Transmission with major interior issues.Only a few thousand were imported to the US,and it is estimated that only a few hundred are left.Unlike the sluggish Mercedes 240D and 300D series, the BMW diesels are peppy. You could spend this much on just one repair on the newer BMW diesels, the 335D, 328D, and 535D.
