Description

I acquired the M6 from an estate moving sale a year ago. Unfortunately, I have to let this rare Royal Blue M6 go because I need the fund to finish the restoration of a 635csi L6 E24 previously owned by Elvis Presley's 1st Love.
The M6 was passed on from the original owner to his brother then from the brother to their common friend (whom I bought from) as part of their retirement process from business partnerships. The M6 was mostly driven, and well driven, by its 1st original owner, who also caringly maintained it then spent tons of money to restore it mechanically and cosmetically. The next two owners mostly garaged it.
The working odometer currently shows 56,698miles which is not actual true mileage so please read on below for mileage history. This mileage will increase a bit as I am driving it when the weather is nice to keep the car lubricated. Based on records which come with the M6:-in 2000, at approximately 230K miles, the 1st owner had the engine rebuilt because dyno test resulting at 246HP, just a shade off from manufacturer 's specified 256HP, was not good enough for him ! I talked to the mechanic at the east coast shop who acknowledged rebuilding the engine on open check book. Indeed I feel the car was rebuilt for high revving racing and the pull and power are awesome. When I remove the oil cap and peek through the inside of the engine, the metal parts inside look new. The under carriage condition looks to be more of a car that has under 80K miles, i.e. mechanically restored, than one that has traveled over 200K.
The seller told me his friend spent all the money he could to upgrade the performance of his M6. There is evidence of this claim from what I am able to detect as upgrades which I have included pictures of on the listing:-special header and Super Sprint exhaust, cat deleted, then ceramic coated from tip to tip. A BMW thread on Internet voted Super Sprint exhaust as best exhaust tone. Now that I've heard the SS exhaust on this M6, I have regretted purchasing IE exhaust for my L6. The SS exhaust is not loud at low RPM then brings the beast out of the M6 engine at 5000RPM +.-K&N direct air intake.-lowering springs with Bilstein Sports. Lowering was done correctly with Bavarian CAM adjustment kit-Front Brembo brakes-17inch BBS wheels-I recognize the beefy front and rear blue sway bars are Dinan (I had Dinan sway bars for my E9).-front lights upgraded with HID, much brighter than stock light.Underneath carriage, I do not see any fluid leakage anywhere on any component (please check out pictures for cleanness of bottom carriage), except there is tiny sip out of the plug of power steering box.The car was professionally re-painted in 2006. The royal blue color was accurately replicated. Too bad, it s not easy to take pictures that could show the beautiful hues of this paint color at different light angles. Paint remains excellent and shiny but does have a few tiny paint chips and a few dings that are hardly visible.
I believe during paint renovation, either the odometer was refurbished and reset or a brand new odometer was put in, hence the current mileage. Also, during the paint renovations:-an in-dash K40 alarm system was installed, with two tiny visual alarm LED lights professionally built on odometer fascia, i.e. no ugly alarm box attached on dash. This system is capable of detecting radar from front and rear, with highway and city mode. The radar worked when I drove the car home. I turned it off now I don't know how to turn it on. There is no reason why it should not work.-the motors of the two front doors might have been re-conditioned or replaced because they are a lot smoother and quieter than my L6. The lift motor of the left rear window however does not want to move even after I replaced window button with circuits that are tested as good. The motor may just need a little crank help to get moving again.
Other positives:-An upgraded stereo system was installed. The speakers ' sound is really excellent. I do not see any hole drilled or cut through any panel to accommodate the new stereo system.-All panels on the M6 still carry its original VIN stickers.-Tool set is mostly complete with correct original red handle screw drivers.-Alternator looks brand new-Last owner repaired brake ABS (cost over $1000)-Both front seat were recovered with nice thick leather. The bolster of the driver seat however show slight fading due to rubbing. I did not detect any tear or defect on the rest of the interior. The dash and control elements like knobs and overall interior can use a good clean up.- I procured missing parts that were obviously missing, like cigarette lighter, med kit, seat belt cover, ... and also bought brand new battery and changed oil- I also replaced hood hydraulic shocks with new ones.
The Not So Good:While it is evident that tons of money was spent to upkeep, upgrade and renovate, the car never went through a nut and bolt restoration inside out. As such I noted the following issues, some are typical woes of these BMW 80s vehicles when they get old:dash has some cracks and is covered with Bavarian Autosport dash mat.-headrest of both front seats do not work.-heater control valve not working causing heat to enter cabin when heat and fan are not turned on. This is common issue with aging E24s. Fan does work.-I am not sure but I think AC was converted to R134 (maybe expert Buyer can tell by looking at the picture of the AC charge nipple). The AC is not blowing cold.-Some temperature controls are missing the knobs. I have acquired correct used knobs from a 1987 635csi and they are included.-electrical issue: when head lights are turned on at night, the light on dash went out and warning that rear turn signal light is out when it s actually not. Based on experience my brother went through when a shop installed a new stereo head on his 635CSI E24 using existing electrical power leads of the stock stereo, the new stereo head causes dash light to go out, not burnt, because of electrical overload the E24 circuitry is not designed to handle. This could be the same problem on this M6. I have not looked into fixing this issue. -plastic covers on hinges of front bucket seats are missing. -There is gas seeping out of gas tank 's top edge when topped. No seepage if tank is not topped.-the last owner decided to paint the front air dam flat black after repairing a very minor crack. The air dam is solid and straight. The flat back is not eye soring but it should be repainted to body color to be correct. While much money was spent on rebuilding and re-conditioning this M6 by the previous owner to a mechanically strong driver, not to become a show car, Buyer should thus consider this is still a 30 year old + car that has not gone through every nuts and bolts restoration. Buyer from states which have strict emission control such as California should be aware that this car may not pass state 's emission test due to its catalyst converters were removed.
Clear title ownership is under my name and is in my hand. The car is currently licensed to be driven and insured.
The reserve price is set even lower than some high asking price of the more common 635csi currently listed on eBay. The car is sold on as is, where-is with no warranty expressed, no return accepted. Winner buyer is responsible for all ship/transportation cost. Payment via PAYPAL of non refundable $500 is required within 24hour from winning bid. The remaining amount shall be wired to my bank account. I will release the car and title once my bank confirms the wired money is secured in my account.
I think the pics tell all about the M6 condition however I encourage questions and will accommodate best I could on requested inspection before purchase. I also have some more pictures that I can send upon request.
Thank you for bidding on my M6 and good luck.
In reviewing the pictures, I notice a picture of the under carriage showing left sub frame to be very rusty. Previous owner(s) due to ignorance wrongly jacked the car up from the sub frame and had caused indentations on the frame which under light make the sub-frame looks like it s rusty. There is no rust on the sub-frame or anywhere under carriage or any panel.
