This 1988 BMW M6 was acquired by the seller3 years ago from along time customer, for whom he hadserviced the car since 2001. This example is one of just 1800 US-delivered for 1988, powered by the S38 3.5 liter DOHC 24-valve inline-six engine mated to a5-speed manual transmission. The drivetrain isreported to be original to the car. The seller has brought the car to its current condition with a cosmetic refurbishment includinga repaint in Royal Blue Metallic, for which allmoldings, trim and glass were removed.All maintenance is reported to beup to date, including a recent valve adjustment and replacement of all valve springs. True mileage is unknown,with Carfax reporting last known mileage as 118k in 2001, at the time there was an instrument cluster or odometer replacement done by the previous owner. This M6 is accompanied by detailed service records since 2001, and is offered with a clean Maryland title.
Thorough metal repairs and prep reveal tight panel fit, and serve to show off the lines of BMW’s famous “Land shark”. Clean glass, bright lenses and plastic/rubber trim are visible throughout. The sellerindicates achrome trim piece on the driver’s side does not align perfectly.
Photos also show checking to rubber of the trunk spoiler, light scuffing to bumper rubbers at the corners, and some surface delamination of the driver’s sidemirror.
The seller has provided photos detailing the extent and care of metal fabrication in preparation for the recent repaint, including work to both front fenders, rockers panels, rear panel around the tail lamps, and the windshield scuttle.

This M6 rides on a set of custom-painted BMW Style 5 staggered wheels, withContinental Extreme Contact DW tires.The matchingblue rims wereapplied as part of the repaint, and wheels show little evidence of curbing.
The 8-way Recaro front seats have been re-upholstered, andnew carpet has been installed, with both providing a close match to the original Lotus interior. Front upholstery and carpets are in good condition, while therear seats and other interior surfaces show slight discoloration. The seller notes asmall tear in the driver’s side door panel, and that theseat hinge covers are missing. The steering wheel airbag module has been disabled by faulty sensors, which are reportedly no longer available.
The original dashboard was cracked, and this and other minor trim items were replaced after being sourced from a donor car of the same color.The 6-series dash pad is particularly susceptible to cracking and distortion, but the replacement pad appears free of these problems.
The seller reports an intermittent fault to the anti-lock brake warning indicator, resulting from failingwheel speed sensors that are said to be no longer available. Converted to R134 in 2003, the A/C is reported as functional, but cruise control is not working.
Underhood, the 3.5-liter North American-spec S38 provided 260 hp when new and has no immediate needs according to the seller. All maintenance is reported as up to date, including recent valve adjustment, and replacement of all valve springs.Thevalve cover and intake plenum were painted to match the color of the car.
