THE 1956 BUICK
In 1956, Buick offered four different Series. They were the Special, Century, Super and Roadmaster. Roadmaster was the top-of-the-line offering for Buick in 1956. Buick produced only 4,354 Roadmaster Convertibles. That was less than 1% of the total 572,024 1956 Buick production.
The Super and Roadmaster differed from the Special and Century Series in that they had:
5” Longer Wheelbase
3.2” Wider Rear Tread
8.5” Longer Body
4.5” Wider Body
4-bbl Carburetor
The Roadmaster differed from the other Series in that it had:
11.5 Sq. In. More Effective Brake Lining Area
Parking Brake w/ Warning Light was Standard
Larger Tire Size (8.00-15)
Less Tire Revs Per Mile
There were of course styling differences between the four Series.
The Roadmaster was powered by Buick's 322 cubic-inch V8 that developed 255 horsepower and was good for zero-to-sixty in 11.7 seconds and was capable of 110 miles per hour. The Roadmaster name first appeared on Buick automobiles in 1936 as a celebration of their engineering improvements and advancements in design. The Roadmasters were built on the longest wheelbase Buick had to offer. From 1946 through 1957 they were the most elegant and prestigious automobiles that Buick sold.

Vehicle Condition:
THIS 1956 BUICK ROADMASTER CONVERTIBLE IS IN AMAZING ORIGINAL SURVIVOR AND RESTORED CONDITION. THIS BEAUTIFUL ROADMASTER RUNS AND DRIVES WONDERFULLY!
The exterior has been restored and is nothing less than absolutely stunning! Most of the re-chromed pot-metal exterior pieces are excellent. Although there are some bubbles showing in spots, these pot metal pieces are usually very badly pitted. The chrome on the vents on the fenders is thin in spots. My understanding is that exact reproductions are available. While the blue soft top presents very well and is very serviceable, there is some shrinkage near the back window and minimal wear in spots.
The interior is mostly excellent survivor condition. There are a few very minor items to mention. The inside of the soft top shows some discolorations. As should be expected, the electric clock is not running. The radio does work. No attempt has been made to use the windshield washer so I can’t say if it works or not. All of the gauges work, but the speedometer speed indicator moves about and usually settles at about 65 when the car is not moving. This is very common with this type of speedometer after age. The original leather seats are in amazing survivor condition. While there is some minimal surface cracking on the driver’s seat bottom and the rear seat back, the leather is fully intact and very serviceable. Some of the interior chrome shows some minor pitting, but the chrome for the soft top frame is excellent.
Note that the odometer reading listed above is believed to be the total original mileage. The yellow California license plates are not included with the vehicle.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT WHILE THIS IS NOT A $150,000 CONCOURS RESTORED EXAMPLE, THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONALLY NICE COMBINATION OF EXCELLENT SURVIVOR AND RESTORED 1956 BUICK ROADMASTER CONVERTIBLE! THIS BUICK IS A VERY “RARE” MODEL AND IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. WHILE SHE IS CERTAINLY NICE ENOUGH TO SHOW, SHE MAY BE DRIVEN AND ENJOYED WITHOUT FEAR OF DECREASING HER VALUE!
