Description

Rare1939 series 41 4 door Phaeton
This is a 1939 Buick Phaeton convertible, 4 door, with back seat and trunk. I have used it mainly for a few parades and picnics. I think it is an honest quality restoration, all 6 volt, 8 cylinder restored to original point of view. Only 724 of these built in that year, so somewhat rare model, the phaeton is slightly larger then standard convertible.

Dynaflash Valve-in-head straight-eight engine puts out 107 horsepower. This particular model was built with running boards…an option in 1939. Features in the 1939 Buick lineup include: hydraulic brakes, front and rear coil suspension, a column shifter, torque-tube drive, front sway stabilizer, knee action front suspension, 18 gallon gas tank, and an all silent three speed column shiftSynchro-Meshtransmission. All lights, switches and turn signals work and there are even small interior lights in the under the back of the front seat (for those seated in the rear).

This was a state of the art prestige automobile in 1939 and today it retains the original color, style and many features.

Super looking driver and fun car. The history of this car to best of my knowledge is as follows. Original California car (so no rust), had a frame off restoration and sold 11 years ago when it went to an important auction in Aug. 2008 RM Auburn Classic Car Auction inAuburn,Indiana. At that auction, it was purchased for $68,000 plus buyers premium. It was than sent to Kentucky, where the owner re-titled the car.
I bought it from his estate in 2011 and shipped it back to California, had it re-titled here and have used it intermittently, always stored in a garage since owning. Ipurchasedthe car with 4000 miles, it now has about 5000 miles on it, I can not be sure what originalmileageis on the car, I would assume, when it was restored, theodometerwas set back to 0000. This car arrived in great condition no issuesI added the following:
  • Custom made fender skirts with Buick symbol/logo
  • Rear turn signal lights-hooked up to front running lights as well.
  • Dietz amber fog lights
  • Large single fog-running light on left front bumper
  • New super high quality leather interior, channel back custom upholstery and new carpet
  • New matching custom top with leather trim and boot cover
  • Auxiliary fan installed at front of original radiator (operated from drivers seat for hot days or parades)
  • Matching seat belts front/back
  • Period correct compass on front window
  • Period correct Buick makeup mirror installed on passenger sun visor
  • Lorraine model #37 spot light on drivers side
  • Special hidden flag holders for front and rear bumpers, perfect for parades
  • Special 1939 California collector plates

  • Issues:
The paint is excellent, there are two minor areas that show some loss of color:
  • The metal strip between the two hoods has minor paints loss from the strip being snug to the top.
  • The area in front of radiator has a few small color loss chips since we did some work there, very minor touch up.
  • One 25 cent shaped ding (hardly noticeable) on the top side of the drivers rear fender.
  • Steering wheel bakelite is in excellent shape, one of the horn rings has been removed and there is a custom leather steering wheel cover which couldeasily be removed.
  • Currently a non original radio which fits normally into the dash.
  • I recently found an original period correct 1939 Buick radio (It took me 7 years to find one and it is currently being restored in Oregon). The person with the radio has passed away and the new owner can negotiate if interested with his estate to get it back. I will put you in contact with them.

  • This car is a real looker. A high end driver car, always garaged, ready to just get in, go and have fun. All accessories you see in car photos will accompany car to new owner. I am not a car dealer, this is my own private car. If you want additional photos, please e-mail me at rickmartini@me.com or call me at 510-501-4020. Collector Car 2017 price guide has a value of $49,000-$70,000 for this car in condition 2-1. I think this car would certainly fall into that condition. I have owned and restored about 10 pre-war cars over the past 30 years, mainly Buicks from 1936, 1937,1938, 1939 & 1941. I have sold about 6 cars on Ebay over the years and many high end guitars ($3500-$10,000 dollar range). I have a perfect Ebay rating for over 1500 transactions. Please e-mail with any questions you might have. I forgot to mention, the car is hooked up with a proper typical "trickle charge" to the battery which will also be included with the car.

I recommend all buyers inspect the vehicles before purchase
