1968 CADILLAC DEVILLE CONVERTIBLE, 1ST YEAR OF THE 472 CUBIC INCH ENGINE!
ACQUIRED THIS CAR FROM A GENTLEMAN FROM DENMARK THAT HAS LIVED IN THE STATES SINCE THE 90'S.
HE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 1997. HAS ALWAYS KEPT IT IN A GARAGE AND NEVER OUT OVERNIGHT!!!
HE ALSO HAS 2 OLD JAGUARS AND IS MOVING TO FLORIDA AND WONT HAVE THE GARAGE SPACE AT HIS NEW RESIDENCE FOR THE CADDY.
IT HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAINTED THEN, (BEFORE 1997) AND REAL SHEEPSKIN SEAT COVERS WERE ALREADY INSTALLED ON THE SEATS. HE THOUGHT THE CAR HAD 27,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT, AND AT 34,000 HAD A NEW INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND ODOMETER INSTALLED AND SET ODOMETER TO 0. ITNOW SHOWS 7,500AND SOME ODD MILES. SO HE WAS THINKING CAR ONLY HAS 41,500 AND SOME ODD ORIGINAL MILES ON IT WHEN BRINGING THE CAR TO ME.
I HAD MADE HIM AWARE THAT WHEN HE BOUGHT THE CAR IN 1997, THE TITLE SHOWED THE 27,000 MILES, BUT THE BOX WAS ALSO CHECKED ON THE TITLE "EXCEEDS MECHANICAL LIMITS"
HE WAS HAVING A VERY HARD TIME BELIEVING THE CAR HAS OVER 100,000 MILES ON IT, AND HONESTLY, I WASN'T WORRIED ABOUT THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT, IT IS WHAT IT IS!
THE CAR, RUNS DRIVES, AND SHIFTS 100%! IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED, AND IT STOPS AS IT SHOULD ALSO WITH THE POWER BRAKES! POWER STEERING WORKS WONDERFUL. FACTORY ORIGINAL CARPETED MATS.
AS STATED EARLIER, IT WAS PAINTED BEFORE 1997,BEAUTIFUL BURGUNDY, LOTS OF SHINE,AND HAS SOME SMALL BUBBLING IMPERFECTION AREAS DUE TO WHAT I WOULD SAY WAS PREP BEFORE PAINTING SOME 22 OR MORE YEARS AGO! NOTHING ON THE CAR TO CALL RUST PROBLEMS AT ALL! WOULD BE VERY EASY JUST TO CORRECT THOSE COUPLE AREAS WITHOUT HAVING THE WHOLE CAR REPAINTED.
THE CAR IS VERY STRAIGHT AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE ALL METAL AND NO BONDO OR PUTTY IN THE CAR. A GOOD EXAMPLE OF THIS IS USUALLY THE FENDER SKIRTS ON THE OLD CARS ARE EATEN UP, OR BEAT UP AND DONT WORK OR REMOVE THE WAY THEY SHOULD, THESE FENDER SKIRTS ARE LIKE NEW AND WORK WONDERFUL BECAUSE OF THE RUST PREVENTATIVE MEASURES THAT WERE TAKEN! THE CAR LOOKS VERY NICE! THE FRONT BUMPER HAS SOME OF THE CHROME PEELING AWAY IN A COUPLE SMALL AREAS THAT HAS SOME CHROME LOOKING ALLUMINUM TAPE ON THEM. WOULD BE NICE TO GET THE BUMPERS REDONE IN THE FUTURE, BUT IS NO BIG DEAL TO DRIVE IT THE WAY IT LOOKS NOW!
THE INTERIOR AS STATED HAD THE ORIGINAL WHITE LEATHER SEATS COVERED DUE TO THEM BEING CRACKED, AND ALSO UNBEARABLE TO SIT ON WHEN HOT! THE ORIGINAL SHEEPSKINS ARE VERY NICE, AND COMFORTABLE! CARPET LOOKS VERY NICE AND LOOKS LIKE THE ORIGINAL,
THE DASH IS VERY NICE, WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM (FAKE WOODGRAIN) WAS PERSONALLY PAINTED, ( SHOULD BE REPLACED WITH RESTORATION TRIM FOR THAT AREA FOR ABOUT $60.00.
THE LIGHTS, GUAGES, WIPERS, ELECTRIC WINDOWS, TURN SIGNALS, HORN, POWER TOP, RADIO, CIGARETTE LIGHTERALL WORK!!!!!!
THE POWER SEAT STOPPED GOING FORWARD & BACK, STILL TILTS THOUGH, IT IS IN A COMFORTABLE POSITION BACK RIGHT NOW.( GOING TO CHECK FUSES AND HAVE LOOKED AT!)
ORIGINAL AC IS THE OLD R12, AND WOULD NEED CONVERTED TO THE NEW SYSTEM OF 134A IF SOMEONE WANTS IT TO WORK. (NEVER BOTHERED ME NOT HAVING IT BECAUSE OF THE MANUAL SIDE VENT WINDOWS KEEP A NICE BREEZE ON YOU! THE HEAT DOES WORK!
THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL, BUMPER JACK, TOP BOOT COVER, CAR COVER AND SERVICE MANUAL ARE ALSO WITH THE CAR. BACK IN THE 50'S AND ON, ALOT OF DEALERS SPRAYED SOMETHING CALLED COSMALENE? OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, SOME OF IT SOLD BY GULF OIL,
ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR AND UNDER THE HOOD ITSELF TO UNDERCOAT THE CARS AND PROTECT THEM. I CAN HONESTLY SAY, I HAVE HAD IT UP ON A LIFT AND THE BOTTOM OF THIS CAR WAS COVERED WITH THIS STUFF, AND IT WORKED, THE CAR IS SOLID AS A ROCK UNDERNEATH AND SOLID FRAME AND FLOORS! TRUNK IS SOLID AND DRY!
THE WHITE POWER TOP WITH GLASS REAR WINDOW ON THIS CAR WORKS GREAT AND IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH NO RIPS OR TEARS (MAY SEE SMALL AREA IN PIC ON RIGHT SIDE BEHIND QUARTER WINDOW THAT WILL BE GLUED BACK TO FRAME) JUST A LITTLE FLAP. NO TEAR!
I JUST PUT 4 BRAND NEW TIRES ON THE CAR THIS WEEK. I WILL TAKE MORE PICS IF REQUESTED AND TEXT THEM. THE CAR DOES COME WITH A 30 DAY/ 1000 MILE WARRANTY ON THE DRIVETRAIN.
