Description

Fuel economy for Cadillacs of this vintage was never very good. Sadly most of them were crushed in the 2009 “Cash for Clunkers” scrappage program, especially the largest and most expensive Cadillac for 1986, the Fleetwood Brougham d ‘Elegance.Fortunately this beautiful example survived the crusher making it somewhat rare.

Ownership History

In August of last year this car was traded in to a local dealer by the original owner, and I acquired it from the dealer. My intention was to modify it, but after finding the car in pristine original condition I cannot bring myself to do it.So I recently purchased another project car that is already modified. This is my reason for selling it.

Honest description of car including problems:

·Body: The car has two small dings, one in the front driver’s side door, and the other in the front driver’s side fender. Both dings are less than ¼” diameter and 1/16” deep. They are hard to see unless you look for them. There is rust along the bottom edges of all four doors, but no through holes on the metal. This should addressed be as soon as possible (see 4 photos of door bottoms). There is surface rust along the edge of the driver’s side door (see photo). And lastly there a one inch diameter rust bubble forming in the rear passenger side door (see photo).

·Paint:There is some blotchy discoloration on the hood that does not show up in the photos, but can be seen in person upon close examination.Other than the rust problems described above, the paint is in good shape.

·Exterior trim:There is one body color plastic strip that runs the length of the beltline. It is in perfect shape. All the stainless trim is perfect, with no dents, dings or scratches, and nothing is missing.

·Exterior chrome:The chrome on the front and rear bumpers, and the bumperettes is perfect. The factory wire wheel covers are gorgeous, just as perfect as the day Cadillac rolled of the showroom floor.

·Vinyl top: The top has no splits, tears or cracks of any kind.I’ve never seen one of this vintage in this good of condition. But it has some small color blemishes (see photo).

·Tires: Firestone P215/70R15 ∙97S ∙ M+S, have about 75-80% tread remaining.Full size spare tire has never touched the ground.Spare tire cover looks brand new and the jack has never been used.

·Interior:The deep blue velour fabric (and there is a lot of it) is perfect. It does not appear as though anybody has ever driven the car.The matching carpet and mats are perfect. The dash and all the simulated wood grain plastic is perfect. The steering wheel and the brake and gas pedal pads show no wear. All the switches and lamps work properly. The automatic climate control works perfect; the heater is hot and the air conditioning (still R12 refrigerant) is ice cold. The AM/FM/cassette digital radio with retracting antenna works perfect. The stereo speakers work great. The entire interior would be perfect except the passenger side rear door bezel surrounding the door lamp is broken (see photo).

·Drive train:The 5.0 liter (307 c.i.d.) engine purrs. It has some miniscule oil leaks. There are no other fluid leaks and all fluids are topped off.The 4-speed automatic transmission and rear end both function perfectly, with no leaks.

·Brakes:Both the front disc brake pads and rear drum brake shoes show hardly any wear. They certainly do not look like they have 70K miles on them.

·Suspension:The front electronic struts and the rear air shocks and the self-leveling control module work perfectly. This is the cushiest riding car Cadillac built in 1986.

·The Cadillac passed its annual state safety inspection last month, but the check engine light is on.I have not troubleshot the problem to determine the cause.Cars do not have to pass an emissions test in North Carolina for this model year.

Parts I have added:

·New front and rear E & K® fender extensions, rear trunk bumper fillers and rear flat license bumper filler, all painted with correct medium blue F/metallic 85 paint.

·New NOS tail lamp bezels.

·New battery.

·New Flowcooler® water pump + fresh coolant.

Documentation

·I have the original owner’s manual.

·I don’t have the original window sticker, but I do have a copy enlarged to 15 x 19” and laminated.

·I have all the receipts for all maintenance I have performed since August 2017.Unfortunately I don’t have any of the original owner’s service records.

Other details

·The factory wire wheel covers require a special tool to remove/install them. This genuine Cadillac tool is included with the car.

·I have the two sets of original keys.
