BODYWORK/TRIM
Sealed in brilliant Viper Red 2-stage and topped with fresh Haartz Stayfast cloth, this slick Vette is the beneficiary of a comprehensive, frame-up restoration that was conducted by Corvette Care of Rancho Cordova, California. In addition to near-perfect alignment, the car's body features super sinuous aesthetics thanks to well-planned fender flares. Those striking aesthetics have been professionally massaged into a collection of surfaces that are much nicer than anything that rolled out of the factory. And the result is a seductive, fully sorted roadster that looks good on the road and great at the show!
When you think of Corvettes, "classy" usually isn't the first thing that comes to mind. It's not that America's sports car lacks class. It simply floods the conscious with far more appealing descriptors like fast, free and lust-worthy. After all, this C2 was built to lap tracks, not float through a stuffy regimen of teatimes. At the front of the car, bullet-style marker lights, a brilliant bumper and a prominent red, white and black cross-flag emblem cage a body-width, stainless-trimmed grille. At the sides of that grille, exaggerated heat extractors ride between traditional door handles, ornate fender emblems, and polished and shielded side pipes. Opposite those pipes, a '66-exclusive big block hood leads the eye to tinted glass that's framed in chrome cowls, fresh stainless trim and a classy bowtie mirror. And behind that mirror, standard, monochromatic taillights illuminate a chrome-trimmed fuel filler, a clean "Corvette Sting Ray" emblem, a chrome-trimmed tag bracket and small, equally brilliant bumpers.
ENGINE
This spectacular drop-top is powered by a 6.0 liter LS2 V8, which combines road ready reliability with stout 10.9 to 1 compression and an impressive 400 horsepower. Transplanted directly from a 2006 C6, that fully sorted small block employs a sturdy aluminum casting, lightweight 243 heads, coil-near-plug ignition and aluminum, flat-top pistons to create sharp throttle response and immediate torque. GM's familiar fuel rail covers detail a glossy carbon fiber motif with color-keyed Corvette identifiers. The engine's bland serpentine system has been dressed in mirrored shields. A factory throttle body is capped with polished air tubes and conical filters. There's a beefy aluminum radiator that's piped to a traditional Harrison expansion tank. And a stand-alone management system combines with factory-spec headers, an aftermarket brake booster and an Optima gel cell battery to detail an otherwise purpose-built performer. As you would expect, the car's smooth engine bay is an excellent mixture of satin paint and clean hardware. The fresh motor fires up instantly and runs perfectly. And the sound of the LS2 growling through chambered side pipes will send chills right down your spine. Trust me, with this small block's sonorous roar and neck-snapping acceleration, you'll want to bury the throttle every chance you get!
DRIVETRAIN
Although this Sting Ray has apparently never seen a frame-off restoration, it does roll with a good amount of aftermarket upgrades. GM's factory-spec frame serves as the perfect foundation for a tough Tremec 5-speed. That proven gearbox twists a correct Corvette rear end. That highway-friendly driveline rides a stiff suspension that follows coli-over-shocks with power rack-and-pinion steering, KYB shocks, Vette Brake and Products strut rods, a composite TRW spring and a heavy duty rear sway bar. Power-assisted stops are provided by hydraboosted Vette Brake and Products calipers, which clench a combination of drilled and vented rotors. And torque meets the pavement via gorgeous Vossen wheels, which spin 235/35ZR19 Hankook Ventus radials in front of 275/35ZR19 Hankook Ventus radials.
INTERIOR
Inside the car, you'll find a clean Black interior that's a classic take on Chevy's well-known dual-cowl cockpit design. Deluxe leather seats feel firm to the touch, showing no signs of significant wear. In front of those seats, a monochromatic dash hangs fully rebuilt gauges between Vintage Air climate control, a Custom Autosound radio and metal-trimmed foot pedals. Under that dash, a small console centers a custom-dressed shifter between cross-flag-branded floor mats. Under that console, premium, cut-pile carpet rests on high quality heat and sound insulation. At the edge of that carpet, good-looking door panels trace pliable armrests with clean chrome handles and bright stainless trim. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel spins bright satin spokes around a C6-branded horn button and modern, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a small cargo area features a duo of large subwoofers.
