Description

Who doesn't like a Chevy task force era truck? They've got a ton of personality, they're super popular at car shows, and they look like they're raring to go even when they're parked. This turquoise 1956 Chevy 3100 has all of the charm and style with plenty of power and some nice convenience items...sounds good to us!Turquoise was the ideal 1950s color and you have to admit it looks great here. The paint job was done a few years ago and it's holding up great with a nice gloss that seems about right for a pickup. The 3100 was all-new in 1955, ostensibly to showcase the new small block V8, so they didn't mess with a good thing in '56, and that was the right choice. You'll note the grille has been painted white in a nod to tradition, but much of the remaining trim has been neatly shaved to give it a clean look without removing too much personality. Gaps are good all around and the stepside bed gives it a muscular look. Out back you'll find a tailgate with big Chevrolet block letters, and both bumpers were similar to those found on passenger cars to further tie the two together in consumers' minds. The bed is lightly weathered oak and it looks great, with a vintage look that has character.Inside you'll sit on the original bench seat that's been wrapped in a fresh black and turquoise seat cover that really lights up the cabin. The dash was properly painted to match the exterior, as were the doors and the rest of the interior. There's black carpet on the floor and a late-model tilt steering column and steering wheel to help you get comfortable. That seems to be the extent of the modifications, however, as it still uses stock gauges in a beautiful chevron-shaped pod (again, a nod to the passenger car line), with auxiliary dials tucked in under the dash. A JVC AM/FM/CD stereo head unit has been installed in the center of the dash, replacing what was obviously a factory radio, and it's a welcome improvement.Pop the hood and check out the 305 cubic inch small block inside. It's pretty mild but offers useful power that allows you to still use this truck as a truck. It also looks pretty much the way you'd expect when you open the hood of a truck like this. You could get a small block motor in 1956, but it certainly didn't run or look this good. There's an Edelbrock carburetor up top, a set of chrome valve covers, and a new alternator makes plenty of electricity. Original ram's horn exhaust manifolds feed a dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers, so it sounds racy enough, but the front suspension remains a solid axle on leaf springs so it doesn't lose its vintage truck feel. Power routes back through a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and on to the original rear end. 15-inch aluminum wheels hold a set of 225/75/15 blackwall tires, so it's got a sturdy look that's ready to work or play.
