Description

1968 K20 ( 3/4 ton) 4x4 Suburban with 25,949 original mileswith 292 motor. VERY RARE -- ONLY 299 K20 4x4Suburban's werebuiltin the 1968 model year.

Every vehiclehas a story and this one is no exception.. This is the story of "Old Blue".Old Bluehas been inour family since it was brand new. Old Bluewas used exclusively (year round) on ourNorthern Illinois family farm.Since we did not have a fancy shop or new garage; Old Bluesat outside.Winters here are extremelyharsh with temps sometimes dipping down to negative 40 with winds chill.Weused"Old Blue"as a farm truck and for errands and chores, especially during the winter months. It pulled water tanks, feed carts and other trailers to the fields. We watered hogs together, hauled LP gas bottles to watertank heaters and transported tools to the field. This was actually the first vehicle I learned to drive as a kid.

The mileage is original, as this old girlnever left a 10-15 mile radius of the farm. In 1978-79 during "the greatblizzard"; we found ourselves out of power and heat for nearly2 weeks in this rural area. This was the only 4x4around as most people owned traditional standard cab 2 wheel drive trucks. I can remember that winter vividly, borrowing my dad’s pliers toturn "lock in" the front hubs and placing a piece of cardboard behind the grill to warm it up. There isno doubt in my mind;we would have frozen to deathwithout the lifeline"Old Blue' provided our family that winter.. Old Blue holds many wonderfulmemories and always got the job done. Its powerful 292 industrial 6 cylinderengine and 4 speed transmission are both powerful and reliable.

In 1995, we stopped raising livestock and my dad was nearing retirement. I backed"Old Blue"into the barn rather than leave her outside. We were all grown men nowand going our own directions in life.Fast forward to 2018; my father has recently passed awayand we are nowcleaning up around the farm and emptying the barns so this is an actual "barn find" vehicle. The miles are 100% original on the odometer andwe have the Illinois title. The frame appears solid and strong, butunfortunately thebody isrough and it needs some work, including rocker panels, fenders, quarter panels etc. Our winters are harsh and they do spread salt on our roads during the winter months.

We have not tried to start the motor as it has been parked far too long and the left rear wheel(drum brake) is locked up.This rare 1968 K20 Suburban is only 1 of 299 built. It needs and really deserves a full frame off restoration. It was repainted by a local shop in the early 1980's because dad really wanted to preserve this vehicle, but it was not a quality job. In the photos you will see the red primerthat wasused and the second coating of bluepaint flaking off. The original color is light blue.

I wish more than anything in the worldwe could keep "Old Blue" andhave some legendary car restoration shop / builderlike History Channel's“CountsKustoms” -(Danny the CountKoker)bring her back to original condition, but that's justnot financially feasible for my family and even though I ama car enthusiast; I simply don't have the time or resources.

So up for E-bay sale we offer you the opportunity to purchase “OLD BLUE”.
